Random Thought about REs

DH and I were discussing the other night: What would you do if you were an RE/worked in an RE office and were visibly pregnant? It seems like all your patients would hate you. I'm sure this happens though.

  • The receptionist at our office is pregnant, so every single person that walks in sees her.

  • How would the patients know that the RE/employee didn't go through their own struggles to get pregnant?  If it were me, I'd continue working there just the same and hope that the patients would have the same amount of respect for my pregnancy as I would to theirs.

  • When I had my first IUI, the nurse who was assisting my RE was pregnant.  It was a little weird.

One of my IVF nurses did go through IVF as well.  Her first time was unsuccessful, second time worked.  SHe is open about it with patients, though.  She actually cried during my sad ultrasound.

Idk. I don't hate people that are pregnant. And I especially don't hate people who are dedicating their life's work to getting me pregnant. In fact, particularly if they didn't need treatments, I think it's awesome when those not challenged by fertility get it. And not just get it, but REALLY get it.
Well said. Very few non-fertility challenged people I know get it. But the ones who do are pretty great.

ETA: I don't hate pregnant women either, but I do get highly annoyed by AW-ey/ignorant pregnant women. Let's hope none of those are working in an RE office.

  • My RE was pr for part of the time I was seeing her.

It stung a little bit- I'm not going to lie. But at the end of the day she cried with us when our U/S showed that the heartbeat had stopped, and she cried with us after the D&C and she revealed that her two kids were IVF babies and she knows how hard it was for us.  I still love her for how kind she was to us.

  • My RE was pregnant, but I actually don't realize it until she was very far along because she wore her physicians jacket all buttoned up. Once I realized, it did kind of catch me off guard, but it don't bother me, I just wasn't expecting it. I later found out that he had gone through ivf several times to get pg and it definitely helped me feel more confident in her as she had been there and could relate to the struggles of her patients that much more.
