At the doctors office they always ask how often you drink and if you've ever done any illegal drugs. so my question is how honest are you with them?

  • 100% honest. But that's easy to do when your truth is actually the answer they want to hear.

Ditto. I'm pretty vanilla in my partaking of alcohol and have never even considered smoking, let alone doing an illegal drug. I lead a boring life.

ETA: I like it that way.

  • I have a really great relationship with my PCP she is not judgmental at all and I feel it best to be completely honest with her. Just like I expect her to be honest with me about my health and care.
  • Honest here too, but I've never done illegal drugs.  Although I do drink probably every other day.  They usually go on to ask if it's just a glass of wine, or how often I get drunk. That's when it gets a little more akward. I really like my booze, and will usually get slightly tipsy once a week.

The only Dr that has made a comment about it was our fertility OB last month. He just made a comment about alcohol and IF and that the both of us should try quitting or slowing down while TTC.

  • 100% honest. I gave up all alcohol for the new year and I haven't fallen off the wagon yet!!!
  • ok...this is interesting to me! I have pretty much given all alcohol at this point and I haven't don't any illegal drugs since collegish..with the excpetion of a couple of times

    I was just curious

  • I am comfortably honest. I stay away from drugs, but I average out the drinks and tell them that. Some weeks I have none, and then the next week I have 5 in one night. Then the next week I have a drink three nights a week. It's the several drinks in a night my GP doesn't like. Oops.

  • You didn't have another option but I'm 100% honest. I have NO shame admitting which drugs I've done in past. I am clean now so that's all I really care about, I work in a hospital so I do know doctors have heard it all and don't really care what you admit to, they just want the facts to evaluate your medical concerns correctly.

This is me.  I don't do drugs, but my drinking changes with our plans. Also, there are some weeks that I get a bottle of wine because work drives me nuts!
