1st anniversary plans

So I'm in planning mode looking at our fall and have a couple of things we could do the Saturday before our anniversary (beer fest with OOT friends, hosting a football party since we play OSU that will probably mean our only game on local ABC) but it got me thinking. We've had several friends plan little getaways for their first anniversary, and at first i wanted us to go on a big vacation for ours but I don't think it's necessary, especially now that h is starting a new job. I figured we would do one of the above and then on Sunday we would do a nice dinner, come home and gorge on our cake and watch our video or something. Is that lame or should we do something more extravagant?? What are your plans??

Re: 1st anniversary plans

  • I don't think it's lame at all!  We don't have any definite plans, but will probably just go out to dinner and possibly exchange cards / small gifts.  My parents are already looking forward to babysitting our son, and he's not even born yet!

  • I don't think it's lame either!
We leave for Italy the day after our 1st anniversary, so we'll probably go out to dinner (a. because it's our anniversary and b. because we're going to be leaving for 3 weeks the next day and probably won't have any food in our fridge LOL). I also really want to get a mini red velvet cake because our wedding cake was red velvet. We did take the top layer home, but we decided to just eat it all instead of freezing it. We'd rather eat a fresh red velvet cake than eat a freezer burned piece of our actual wedding cake.

I'd like to watch our wedding video too...if we ever get it...we're now on 10 months and counting :(

  • we are considering going away for the weekend- there is a great getaway groupon for Niagra falls ... staying at the sheraton with room views looking right out on the falls! it would only cost about $400 for the 2 nights < there are other  things that are included too... 2 winery tours/tastings, casino credits  and dining vouchers, etc etc> neither of us have been there and it looks like fun!

  • Patty, I saw that Groupon and we were thinking about getting it for next week!  Enjoy if you do.

I wanted to go away for our anniversary, since it's Columbus Day weekend and I'll be off on Monday, but that Tuesday is final tax extension day and H is an accountant.  He doesn't think his boss will give him Monday off.

My brother's friend passed away last summer.  His job began an annual memorial West Point football game in honor of him.  The ticket includes a huge tailgate cooked by a bunch of firefighters.  My brother, SIL and nephew went last year and said it was a blast.  The game is the day before our anniversary, so we're going, then we think we're going to stay at a hotel in the area for the night and come home on our anniversary.  We also plan to eat our cake.

Is the Italy trip for your anniversary?! Originally I wanted us to go on a Caribbean trip around our anniversary/ one more fun drink cocktails on the beach before we have kids trip. Then life got in the way: brother was going to get married so we would have been in ia the weekend before and couldn't do back to back trips, then they eloped, but now h starts a new job and we are unsure of vacation off for Christmas, so a random trip would not work. And I have crazy baby fever so is rather be pregnant by then! Lol.

A more reasonable option that would have happened would have been a Santa Barbara weekend trip or something. It could still happen but I guess I was surprised that I would rather throw a football party and see friends that weekend and do a simple dinner on the day of, than a wine trip that we can do any other weekend.

I'm really looking forward to the cake though!! Our bakery makes a new topper for their couples on their 1 year. It was seriously the best cake I've ever had!! And h didn't get a slice of the vanilla with cream and strawberries on our wedding night so that will be the flavor we get!

  • I don't think that sounds lame at all!!

We're hopefully going to Asheville, NC two weeks after our anniversary with 2 or 3 of our friends for a few days. It'll kind of be our celebration. H doesn't know yet if he'll be able to go because of work. It'll depend on the weather and what projects they're working on. He has the time, but if they're busy he won't be able to take off. I would end up in Asheville with a few friends and no H. :-/ For the actual day we'll probably go out to dinner.

I drove through Asheville a few years ago and fell in love.  It is amazingly gorgeous!  Try to go to the Biltmore estate, if I ever go back, I want to try to stay there.

I know, I've been on the way outskirts, but I've heard so many good things about it! One of our friends going with us has been multiple times and is actually staying at the Biltmore later this week. Hopefully he'll want to go again. haha. If not, we'll definitely make a return trip. The only thing about staying at the Biltmore is that it's crazy expensive. It's definitely over 200 a night, and that's for one room for 2 people. We're looking at a condo or something for 170 a night to fit all of us. Maybe eventually, though!

Oh boo! I'll be near Asheville the last weekend in September! That's where H grew up.

No, the Italy trip is our honeymoon! We weren't able to go on our honeymoon right after the wedding, but it worked out that we're leaving the day after our anniversary :)

  • Not lame at all!

I thought we were just going to go out to dinner, but now DH is saying he'd like us to go away somewhere in New England or the like for the weekend. BUT, when I sent him a LivingSocial deal, he balked about booking something "so far in advance" and would rather wait "until closer". So between that and looking at my work calendar in October, I'm not feeling too optimistic. Can you tell I'm a bit grouchy about this? ;)

I kind of remember that! Have an amazing time!!! Where all are you going?

  • We fly into Rome, and my family, who live outside of Naples, is picking us up and bringing us to stay with them for a few days.

Then, we go back up to Rome to start our tour with Perillo Tours. We have 3 nights in Rome, 2 in Sorrento, 3 in Florence, 2 in Venice, and 2 in Milan. We also take a day trip up into Switzerland from Milan. We'll be gone for almost 3 weeks!

We're so excited...it'll be the perfect mix of seeing family, sightseeing, and honeymooning!

  • We leave on a 7 day cruise to Bermuda the day after our anniversary !!! Can't wait :-) For our actual anniversary we plan on going to the restaurant we got engaged at (and had our rehearsal dinner at)!
  • We are doing a "staycation"--DH is from out east and we live in my home state of Indiana, so there are lots of sights I still haven't shown him.  We'll also probably go to a fancy dinner.  Low key!

  • We're doing a whole lot of nothing for our anniversary, lol. That weekend is a friend's wedding and FIL's birthday, so once we're done with all that we'll probably just eat cake, split a bottle of wine and watch a movie or something.
