Cleaning a Gas Cooktop

Hi. I have a gas cooktop and I wipe it down after each use. But, in the spots nearest the burners, there is a brownish reddish residue that seems to be cooked on that a normal water wiping, or cleaner wiping, will not remove. How do I clean this residue off?

A special cleaner is supposed to help get it off -- you'll also need one of those scraper things that's safe to use on that specific surface. I forget what they are called but you can buy them at a home store or a store like Target or Walmart I'm sure has them as well.
I had an electric stove for a few years and they are such a pain to clean!

We have the same problem with ours--when we moved in I'm pretty sure the previous owners had never cleaned the stovetop or oven, eww! Out of desperation I tried one of those "easy-off" type oven cleaners and just let it sit overnight before scraping and scrubbing it and it worked. I generally hate using chemicals in the house to clean but after trying everything I could think of to naturally clean the grime off I figured I'd give it a shot. Now if only I could figure out how to de-grime the burner plates (or whatever that metal thing is called that goes over the burners--the thing you put the pans on, lol). Good luck!

I put mine in the dishwasher. Works pretty well.

Just came across this and wanted to say that I found a tip for cleaning glass cooktops on Pinterest and it WORKS - it's amazing!! Sprinkle baking soda on your cooktop and cover it with one or two microfiber cloths soaked in warm soapy water. Let it sit for 15 minutes. When you come back, use the cloth to wipe up all the baking soda. It takes minimal effort and it takes off anything that's caked on there. Every time I do this my cooktop looks brand new.
