What do you make of this?

I started Provera about 6 weeks ago to force a bleed. The plan was to start birth control on CD3.

I took Provera for 7 days, and normally start bleeding 2-3 days after the last pill. I never bled though. The RE did an ultrasound to make sure that everything was ok in there, and then we started bc without me having bled.

So... Birth control pills ended a week ago. Again, no bleed.

I'll see the RE on Thursday so I can ask him about it then, but what do you make of this? Clearly there is no lining to shed, but is that healthy? I'm nervous to move forward with everything if something isn't working correctly. Or maybe it's NBD??

  • I have no advice either, but I would make sure you are very confident moving forward that you have the answers you feel OK with before starting your next step

I agree with this. Definitely talk to your doc on Thursday. I'd want pretty specific answers to why you haven't had a period and what the RE intends to do to make sure your lining is thick enough for implantation when the time comes.

  • I'm sorry this is happening. Did you spot at all? Just before we started TTC, I spotted a tiny bit on one day and my GP said that it "counted" as my period (I had gone in for betas because of -HPTs with no period). I am hopeful that your RE will have some answers for you Thursday. Keep us updated!

Nope, no spotting at all.  It's been so weird.

  • I've had this happen to me before. I had to take a second round of Provera to get it going. In fact, I want to say I had to take like 2 pills a day even? Which was weird, because all previous times I spotted within like...minutes of not taking it.
  • I'd talk to RE about it and make sure you feel totally comfortable before moving on. There are reasons for not bleeding which I would be worried about.

Like what?  I want to ask specific questions... I'm a little worried.  I know it can be NBD, but this isn't normal for me.

  • I think the fact that it isn't normal for you is what's concerning.

I just think of a friend of mine who went through similar things post d&c and was eventually diagnosed with Ashermans (sp?) syndrome. If there is something preventing your lining from developing you won't bleed.
Could there be a problem? It would suck to get to transfer day and then something is wrong with your lining.

  • UPDATE - The nurse called and said it is not a huge deal.  She said that the meds specifically say that there *may* be a withdrawal bleed.  I explained that I took birth control for YEARS and would bleed within 2 days -- and this, coupled with the non-bleed after Provera, was unusual for me.

She said that since I'll be on meds to thicken my lining, there is nothing to worry about.
