Salary for Nurse Practitioner

I was wondering if anyone knows the salary for a np in louisiana?  Is there a difference in salary if you work at a pediatric clinic vs. hospital vs. speciality clinic?   Thanks.

Re: Salary for Nurse Practitioner

  • Yes it does differ depending on hospital/specialty/clinic.

The NP that I worked with (and close friend with) made around 90K/year as a Neonatal ICU NP in southern CA (just to give you something to compare I made around 70K as a NICU bedside nurse with my BSN in the same unit). Another friend of mine just started working as an FNP at one the minute clinics at CVS and is starting out around 65k/year (this is in Dallas, TX).

I always thought I wanted to be an NP but after hearing the salary & seeing the crap they have to put up with (and the hours!) it wasn't worth it to me for only 20k more a year....especially when you add malpractice insurance!

This isn't what she's asking about.

Here in PA, NP's make around 60-80K. You won't start out at much more than 60K unless you go into anesthesia. And the job market for CRNA is even pretty crappy now a days.

If you work in a Dr's office, you might make a little less but you'll have decent hours. As a PP said..it really isn't worth it unless you have the money to burn on grad school and just have to get away from the bedside.
