Another acupuncture question...

Sorry for being annoying with this.

Is it supposed to be instantly relaxing? I'm totally underwhelmed.

I was there for 45 minutes. Had needles in me for 30. I spent about 20 minutes thinking about how I was failing at relaxing, thinking about work, thinking about Baby (because that's where my mind goes when I'm not thinking about something else) and about money. Then I started to fall asleep, probably out of boredom.

So I'm done. I feel nothing other than that I just laid in a room for 30 minutes listening to nature sounds and stressing about how I don't know how to not be anxious.

Awesome?

I've only gone a few times. One time was super relaxing, and the other times more like what you're describing. One time I fell asleep.

My acu told me to just take it as it comes. We aren't always going to be able to just turn our brains off, and we will drive ourselves nuts trying to.

    Good luck!

ETA: I totally think about my babies when I relax too. One time I even cried while lying there with the needles in me. You are not alone.

  • In my very first session, my acu taught me some breathing techniques. I find that if I concentrate on breathing, it's difficult for other things to wander through my mind. I don't ever fall asleep but I've come close.

What did you want to get out of your session? If it was for relaxation, maybe this just isn't for you. No harm in trying it out though, right?

  • I don't always find it instantly relaxing, sometimes I do. Like LL said I'll often concentrate on breathing or the music that's playing to keep my mind from wandering, sometimes I'll visualize what I want to be happening at that point in the cycle.

If it's not for you, it's not for you but don't stress about it. It just is what it is.

  • I'm a big advocate for headspace the app. If you have a smartphone, download it. It teaches you how to meditate, which you could use on its own or with acu. The most helpful tips are if you have a thought, acknowledge it and then let it go. Don't try to force thoughts out if your head because you won't win that game, but don't dwell on the thoughts either. Hth!

  • I booked appts for every week until FET, plus that morning. I figure that aside from relaxation, there are reasons that people swear by it, and it doesn't hurt to try.

I was just a little disappointed. I hoped to leave feeling refreshed and a little less stressed. I didn't get that.

I will have a glass of wine beforehand next time. That ALWAYS relaxes me. :)

  • The first few times I went I wasn't able to relax.  But lately, as I have gone more and more, I am able to relax a lot more.  I usually just try to visualize what I want to happen at that time.  Like imagine my follicles growing or something like that.  It took a few sessions before I was able to really relax.
