$800 for an inspection is this a good deal?

inspection includes: Well water, radon, VA home inspection, pest inspection, and septic.

Re: $800 for an inspection is this a good deal?

  • Ours was around $750, but I live in Minnesota, so yeah, I'd say that's on the good side. Did he come recommended by anyone? Our Realtor picked ours for us. He's worked with the guy tons of time. We trusted him and he did a great job :)
  • Mine too! My realtor gave me his name and one other. I contacted the other and never got a call text or email back. I'm moving to New Hampshire.
  • I think that's a pretty decent price, especially for all thing they're covering. Hope the inspection goes well!
    ?Laugh whenever you can. Keeps you from killing yourself when things are bad. That and vodka.?
  • We had a VA loan and ours was $450. It included everything you mentioned. We live in Upstate NY.
  • @SURFERxGIRL: I hope it goes well too thanks!
    @MrsS728: Wow! What a steal!
  • Get Mike Holmes' Home Inspections from the Library. It was a life saver when it came to the inspection. It has questions to ask potential inspectors, what to look for etc.....our REA was impressed and so was the Inspector. Also, do what my husband did.....shadow the inspector, so that you see everything he's seeing and you know everything about the bones and guts of the house so there are no surprises down the road. Good Luck!!
  • To get everything that you mentioned, in my area that would run about $900-1000. So $800 would be a good deal in my area (Washington DC metro).

  • I live in Minnesota and paid less than that ($450 I think) but I also don't have well water or septic.
  • Okay, so it looks like 800 is not to bad for my area then. Plus talking to this guy on the phone I got a really good vibe.
  • Ours cost us $500 I think? But they did full inspection....the guy was in the house for something like 2-3 hours going through everything and he took a lot of pictures for the report....money well spent.
  • Septic & the house came to 1200, 700 for septic alone, and I'm in NJ.
  • My home inspection was around $300 but all I needed was an FHA inspection. He inspected everything but said since the house was previously purchased within the last 5 years (it was a short sale) and they disclosed they had an inspection with no flaws, it didnt need another radon test, its on city water, there was no pests issues that warranted a further look (plus they didnt have an issue 5 years earlier).
    The house was in good condition it just needed some paint and flooring inside, while outside a few ends pieces on the deck boards needed replaced, the fence corner needed to be nailed back together, the rain gutter needed to reattached in the back, and the yard needed to be mowed and remove the weeds.
