Neighbor needs to fix our house...

So, a neighbor of mine who I had never met, and who is a contractor, accidentally shot some kind of nail gun kind of thing into our house. It made a hole in our siding, but didn't come inside. He left his number when he came over, and he puttied up the hole, but he didn't do a great job. I think he was nervous or something. But now there is a big hole with white all around it, so I want him to come over and fix the hole and put stucco over it and paint it. He is a contractor, so it's either that, or his insurance pays us to do that. Should I go to his house in person to ask him to fix it better, or call him? And we are in our rights to demand that right, or get his insurance information? We do have an HOA so if for some reason he doesn't, we can always go to them.

Re: Neighbor needs to fix our house...

  • I would start by talking to your neighbor.  Acknowledge his attempt to fix the hole he caused, but work to resolve the appearance as well.  If he is not cooperative, then move on to your next step.
  • I just talked to him and he was very nice and apologetic and is planning to fix it perfectly and paint it to get it all back to normal. So, problem resolved, hopefully!
