When reading a hardback, do you typically remove the dust cover while you're reading it?

Sometimes. It depends on the book.

It posted before I could give the Special Snowflake option and proofread it, and I can't see how to fix that.

  • In general, we don't keep the dust covers for hardback books. If I do keep them, I usually take it off to read because I don't want to damage the cover. The only ones we have with the covers are specific sets where the cover design is part of why I bought those particular copies.

  • I love the library dust covers with the plastic.  The sound has always been like music to my ears since I was young.

I said it depends because it depends on where I'm at.  If I'm taking it out of the house or in the tub, the cover comes off.

  • I leave them on and use them as bookmarks.  :o)

  • I don't keep dust covers on, but not because I want to preserve them - just because it's a pain to keep it on while reading.

  • I don't just leave mine on, I typically use the flaps as a bookmark.

  • I take them off to preserve them. I get irritated when I accidentally bend them.

  • I hate dust covers. They really annoy me. Especially on library books since they can't be removed.
If I could remove them from library books, I would. At least while reading.

  • I remove them for two reasons. 1 - to prevent damage 2- because they drive me effing nuts while I'm reading.

  • I didn't even know that people took dust covers off of books before they read them. I leave them on, and I also use the flaps most often as a bookmark. I do currently have an actual bookmark I am using though (Keep calm and eat a cupcake!), so in my current hardcover, I am using that.

I used to dogear pages to whatever book I was reading, but I stopped doing that in books that are hardcover or trade-sized. I do sometimes still do that to mass market paperbacks, however.
