TI...again

:( My heart is breaking for DH. I even tried to help. :( I just feel helpless.

When I called the clinic to let them know, they told me to do TI and call in 2 weeks. I asked about what we were going to do about the collection if this doesn't work, and they told me to not worry about it now; they have ways to get what we need. I just keep repeating what someone (ILRV?) told me last month: IUI only gives you a small percentage chance more if you are unexplained.

Re: TI...again

  • I'm so sorry.

can you freeze semen? could he give a sample one random morning and you run it into the office...and then they'll have it for when you need it?

  • @amccul20, I'm not sure. He said the issue is that he gets stressed when he is about to finish, so he can't. I have confidence that the clinic will find a solution for us, but I told him the freezing might have to be an option.

    I'm so sorry.
But yes, if MF isn't an issue, IUI only increases chances by 2-3%.
I hope both of you are hanging in there. This is difficult.

my RE's office said you could have sex with a condom on then put the condom in a sample jar.  I wonder if that would help him...

my heart hurts for both of you. I know how difficult it is to watch my husband deal with MFI and it kills me.

  • I'm so sorry, @poppies717. ((hugs)) and I hope this cycle works for you guys.

  • I'm so sorry.  IF asks so much out of us and it's just not fair.  I hope you don't need anymore cycles but I know that at my clinic they can collect on a "non-pressure" day anytime before IVF or IUI and freeze it.  Yes, it costs some more but it might be worth looking into.

  • Poppies, I know in some religions, ejaculation can only be obtained through marital sex (I feel like a text book).  RE's offices acknowledge that, and there are condoms that can be used to get the sample.  Obviously they aren't just over-the-counter ones.  Is that an option?

  • @ILoveRedVino, I would hope that is an option. In fact, I'm a little miffed that they didn't offer it to us given what happened last time. Yeah, I didn't ask, but I did say that we needed them to be flexible with the timing because last time my DH couldn't produce a sample.

I am trying to compile my list of concerns/questions for a meeting with the RE in a few weeks (assuming this cycle is a bust), so I will add this on! Thanks!

  • @ILoveRedVino - I read about those in a book once.

Poppies, I just looked it up in the appexdix. "They are called a Seminal Collection Device. They are made with sterile properties and are safe for collections. They are only available through prescription, so you'd have to ask your doctor, but a google search should provide brand names to ask about"

I am so sorry you and your DH are in this position again. Big ((hugs)).
