  • No but I did have TGIFridays charge $2,000 on my check card once.  It never posted, but was a nightmare to deal with.
  • nope!  Thank god, **knockonwood**

but when I was in high school some big 18 wheeler which contained hundreds of SSNs tipped over and a lot of them blew away and were scattered all over the highway.  it was a really bizarre story!  everyone whose number was on the truck got a letter telling them their number may have been compromised.  My mom and I both got letters and kept a close eye on our banks and stuff for a long while, but nothing ever happened.  it was so weird.  like, why was a semi just carrying a bunch of SSNs?!

  • I had a "scare" with a debit card. The company wasn't sure at all that a merchant hadn't just entered things incorrectly and tried to charge my credit card by accident, but cancelled it all to be sure anyway. Thanks, Wells Fargo, for being so proactive!

  • My card has been "compromised" a few times.  I did have one card stolen after using it to pay a traffic ticket in Mass.  I found that quite interesting.

  • I've never had a card physically stolen, but we've had fraudulent activity on H's Citi card twice. Luckily they've fixed it both times, although the most recent was a huge pain in the butt. The first time someone managed to sign up for experian credit monitoring. They figured out who it was, but I don't know how they used a cc to monitor the credit score with the cc in someone else's name...

The second time it was being used in England. I was like....ummm....definitely never been to England! They canceled the card, sent us new ones overnight, and filed the fraudulent charges. A week later it said the cards were delivered the next day, but we didn't have them, they weren't in our mailbox, and our apt office didn't have them. I called, they said they couldn't even find where the charges had been filed as fraudulent and sent another card. She sent just me, not H, a card for the new account. When I found out it was one, I called, the guy said that she should have cancelled the account since we never got those cards. He also had to re-file the claims as fraudulent. Finally that fixed everything, but we found the fedex envelope from the first time when the hall washers came in....oops.
