Tuesday Topic

So I thought I would just throw out a topic for us to discuss. I'm sure everyone either saw or has heard and seen a video by now of Miley Cyrus. What do you think about it and how do you feel about young girls seeing this kind of thing?

Re: Tuesday Topic

  • I still haven't seen it. Not sure that I want to either.

I thought it was a bit over the top, and she looked stupid. BUT it's a late night awards show on MTV, it's not meant to be seen/watched by young girls. Parents can control what they let their children watch and if they let them watch a show meant for adults, they need to be held responsible for what their kids see.

  • I have nothing good to say about. I honestly cant even find the words to describe it other then nasty, disgusting and she is stupid. I hope if I have a daughter she would know better then to look up to someone like that and realize how disgusting she acted. We wouldn't have let our future daughter watch it anyway but there is always a way for kids to find stuff.

First I wondered if she has some sort of medical condition where she can't keep her tongue in her mouth.

But seriously, I think it's awful that people are calling her a slut (or some variation). I don't feel that's ever appropriate and is setting just as bad of an example for girls as her actions. And let's not forget Robin Thicke was there too, who's 36, married and a father. But he's a guy so it's okay?

She's an “entertainer;” the more people are talking about her the better for her career. Not to mention that it's the VMAs, they're kind of known for controversial performances (Madonna, Nirvana, etc.).

I wouldn't let a child, boy or girl, who wasn't old enough watch the VMAs. It's adult programming.

  • I thought it was disgusting and she didn't look "hot" or "sexy" at all. The whole performance just grossed me out. And don't get me started on Robin Thicke either... I think he's a creep, and I truly don't understand why people like his song so much.

Knowing what goes on at the VMAs, I won't be letting my children watch them until they're old enough and know better than to look up to any of those people.

  • All of the above, however, they DON'T plan their own performances. Someone TOLD her that this was a good idea! I think it was disgusting that she went through with it and I highly doubt they told her to use the foam finger in such a vulgar fashion.

And shame on Robin Thicke for thinking that was a good idea.

    Just, yuck.

  • I agree with all you ladies. However I will say this isn't the first Miley performance I have seen recently where she has done something like this. Robin should be very ashamed of himself for just being involved in such a performance.

Also the teddy bears I didn't understand not that I think it would have made anything better. It was way too long and I ended up just not watching most of it. However JT's performance should have been way longer and Miley's should have been cut short.

As far as young girls go I know had my parents told me not to watch the VMA's I would have found a way. But that doesn't mean I will allow my children to grow up and think it's okay to watch something like this.

All of this, especially the bolded. it's not cool to slut shame Miley even though the performance was pretty raunchy. it just sends an all-around bad message.

I read a news story where Robin's mother said something like "I didn't think she would put her butt so close to my son" - lady, your son stood there and let it happen! Ew!

Lady, your son did a music video with topless women dancing around and you're surprised that Miley was "twerking" on him, come on!!

She got what she wanted out of that performance. Everyone is talking about her and she's making headlines. Isn't that what entertainers want?!

Did anyone catch the Lady Gaga interview before the show where she said that the VMA producers wanted to make sure that she did something to top her previous performance. So that should tell you something about what these producers expect and think is acceptable.

The less attention it is given the sooner it will all go away (hopefully)!

  • I think the whole thing is disgusting. I honestly wasn't surprised by Robin Thicke doing it because I have always found him creepy so I think maybe that's why I'm more upset about Miley. I just think that she's trying to hard to prove that she's an adult that this just went too far. Is she a slut because of it? No. Was she acting slutty? Yes. I think there's a huge difference there. And you open yourself up to that when you dance around in a weird rubber bathing suit. I just wish that people would stop trying to shock people. I don't understand what about that was entertaining.

I don't understand how it was supposed to be entertainment, it was just a train wreck....what's with the sad bears, the tongue that cant stay in the mouth and the bathing suit that makes her ass look like a chicken butt? That said there's some pretty funny stuff going around buzzfeed on the performance.

  • I have not seen her music video and h & I do not have cable so I didnt see her preform. From what I have seen lately her actions are very not lady like and acting very sluty.. I cant believe that she thinks what she is doing is right. I feel for all the girls who looked up to her when she was on Disney playing Hannah Montana now she is not a good role model anymore. She is basically saying to all the girls that it is ok to grow up and look and act sluty. When it is not ok at all. I would make sure that my child was at least 14 yrs of age before watching anything on MTV/vh1 as I was not allowed to watch till I was in high school.

  • I thought it was gross. She looked like a little girl in a training bra. She has shaved off most of her hair. She danced provocatively with teddy bears and stuck her tongue out way too much.

I don't mind seductive dancing or provocative dancing. I enjoyed Britney Spears' nude outfit performance, but Miley Cyrus is not sexy, and she proved that.
