Choosing to Build? lots of questions
Hey ladies
So I've been doing some thinking, and it would make sense for us to build a home since that way we could have everything we need - most importantly the wheelchair accessibility needed for my MIL.Many of the homes we've been looking at don't have wide enough doorways into the bedrooms and bathrooms for wheelchairs to fit through.
So my question is if you decided to build instead of buy, how long did it take? Is it generally cheaper to build than buy? There are a few lots for sale for relatively cheap in our preferred location. If we decide to build I'm hoping we can build a 4 bed 3 bath house with a decent kitchen for around $200 K (or less) Does that sound doable? FWIW we live in upstate NY. I would have no idea where to start in terms of building a house. The one lot I would choose already has plumbing since it was a recent house fire where they had to tear down the house.
Can you tell me about your building experience?
Thank you in adavance
~Jenny~
Re: Choosing to Build? lots of questions
What you get for your money varies by location. In my area 200K for a new build 4 bed 3 bath when you own your own lot would be a fantasy-- and it would be builder grade if .
I would suggest looking at existing homes - you can add a ramp entrance and have the interiors modified (widen a few doorways, make a bathroom handicap accessible etc. - and get a better quality home.
A new construction home generally takes 3 1/2 to 4 months in our area.
