Need some positive vibes...

So after 37 weeks of baby behaving in my belly, he has decided to flip around. My doctor was pushing me to do an external cephalic version, but we decided not to go that route so my little breech baby is scheduled for a c-section on Thursday at 38 weeks 6 days. It has taken a few days for everything to sink in but we are trying to be positive about the experience, and nothing gets your butt in gear like knowing baby is coming on a certain day!

There is still a chance that he could flip so if you could send some positive vibes our way we would appreciate it!

Also, for the c-section mamas, any advice or words of wisdom would be appreciated!

Newqueen-There is a chance we could be in the hospital at the same time!

  • Good luck with everything! Hopefully the baby flips, but if not, at least your c-section is already lined up!

  • What?! No, no, no. Bad baby, spin back! Have you looked at the spinning babies website? http://spinningbabies.com/baby-positions/breech-bottoms-up/flip-a-breech I'm sending spinning vibes your way! And I'll keep an eye out for you if I end up there on Thursday!

  • I'm now a csection vet with two under my belt. Ask any questions, but that baby needs to spin. Push him out push him out Way out!

  • Positive vibes your way!

I've had two c-sections- one emergency, one planned (well, sorta- had a date set and he decided to show up early anyway so I still went through labor and a rough surgery, but that's a different story for a different day).  Anyway, feel free to ask questions.  Couple of suggestions though:

If you have a boppy pillow, bring it to the hospital.  Weird as it sounds, I cannot begin to explain how much relief I got from that pillow when I needed to try to rest or sit comfortably.  I'd use it sort of in the fashion you would use an inner tube, securing it around my front.  For whatever reason, it helped me be much more comfortable.

You will be on a bland diet until you are able to pass gas.  Tell your husband and anyone who may visit right away that.  It will keep you from wringing well-meaning friends' necks when they show up with forbidden foods (meaning well) that you are unable to touch.  I remember after my first c-section someone showed with steak sandwiches and cookies for everyone.  And they all sat and ate them in front of me while I sipped warm water.  I wanted to kill them all.

Good luck!  You'll do great, and at the end of the day, no matter how he gets out, he will be here and he will be perfect.

  • Oh jeez! I hope this baby flips for you! I also had a c/s. I will give you the same advice that was given to me: stay on top of your meds! Even if you are feeling well, keep taking them to ease any pain or discomfort. Oh and take the peri bottle home with you. I loved that thing.
  • Oh and of course good luck!!
  • Add me to the list of c/s survivors.  The recovery was not nearly as bad as I thought it would be.  You just can't try to do too much, or you will feel it.  I got sore and winded very easily, just from going up the steps a few times a day.

There is a website called spinning babies that gives some exercises (not sure if you'd call them that) that you can try to get the baby to rotate.  Not sure how effective it if, but worth checking the website.

Good luck!  Either way, you'll be fine!

Agreed! Good luck, we are thinking of you!!!!
  • I know this isnt really what you asked, but in addition to Spinning Babies, have you thought of going to a chiropractor to get baby to turn? DD2 was breech pretty much my entire pregnancy and after going to a chiropractor two or three times, she spun around into "position".

Im sure you will be fine with a csection--as you can see, so many people have had one with success. But I was so scared of having one I figured Id try ANYTHING before getting to that last resort.

  • Opps! I thought you meant NEXT Thursday, not today. My comment is now totally invalid. Sorry. But good luck!  ;)
