Dave Ramsey

I just downloaded the book on my Kindle. I'm pretty excited to revamp my financial life. With my H being in and out of work (he lost his job last month and has been working on and off with my dad to make some cash), living on one income is starting to stress me out. Luckily, H got a job and we are waiting on his clearance to go through to start working. I'm going to start reading it tonight and sit down with H this weekend to lay everything out.

The biggest financial goal we have is to save up for a down payment to finally buy a home and save up enough for an e-fund.

How did you ladies feel before and after reading the book. Like I said, I'm pretty excited!!

Re: Dave Ramsey

  • Before I read the book I was hesitant, but I tend to be a little suspicious of magic plans to fix all of your problems. That is NOT what his strategy is, in fact, he tells you it will be a lot of work and a lot of tough decisions and NOT taking the easy way out. But I like the perspective. We don't/didn't totally follow his methods, but definitely some of the concepts. We especially buy in about just not needing the things we used to think we "needed" and everyone else has, and choosing to use our money in different ways.
  • Good luck! Keep yourself motivated, and make sure you and DH are on the same track or it won't work out. But if you both agree to your goals, and the monthly budget and you will do great!

  • I personally have not done DR, but I have heard so many great things and success stories.

I think it's a lot of work, but well worth the effort and time.

Ditto PPs...you and your DH need to be in agreement for any sort of financial plan to work.

  • We didn't read the book but loved listening to his show on the radio :) also joined his Facebook page where they post daily tips and articles I can actually relate to!
