Nest Book Club
Dear Community,
Our tech team has launched updates to The Nest today. As a result of these updates, members of the Nest Community will need to change their password in order to continue participating in the community. In addition, The Nest community member's avatars will be replaced with generic default avatars. If you wish to revert to your original avatar, you will need to re-upload it via The Nest.
If you have questions about this, please email help@theknot.com.
Thank you.
Note: This only affects The Nest's community members and will not affect members on The Bump or The Knot.
We have a standing policy on exchanges.
If you sign up for the exchange and do not participate (i.e. if you do not buy and send a gift to your elf) you will be hunted down, publicly shamed, and SHUNNED FOREVER. The internet remembers everything.
If you signed up and don't think you are going to be able to participate, there is still time to back out. There are quite a few regulars on this board who no longer participate in exchanges because they personally, or someone they know, never received a gift from their elf. And that just sucks. These are meant to be fun and when someone gets left out it sucks the fun out of it for everyone. We usually don't open up exchanges to newbies but since this one is open to all, I'm posting this as a general warning.
You may go back to your regular scheduled nesting

"People talk about escapism as if it's a bad thing... Once you've escaped, once you come back, the world is not the same as when you left it. You come back to it with skills, weapons, knowledge you didn't have before. Then you are better equipped to deal with your current reality."

Seriously! I'm still eye rolling about this.
And nobody is going to blast a gift! I'm sure whoever your elf is will love your gift.
Also, a few things I've learned from experience:
1- MAKE SURE YOUR ADDRESS IS CORRECT. Once my package was returned because my Nestie had moved and the forwarding address had expired. I ended up paying for postage twice, and since she never posted that she got it, I'm just assuming she did because it didn't get returned a second time.
2- Posting a thank-you is not only classy, but also lets your elf know that your gift arrived safely, and then she won't worry about it anymore (see #1).
3- PLEASE don't tell your elf you want a GC. Even if you prefer ebooks and your particular device doesn't accept gifted books, or because you want a particular edition from a particular vendor. Don't say, "Send me a GC and a list of titles you would like me to buy with it." It completely sucks every little electron of fun out of choosing and giving a gift for your elf, and the titles are coming from your wishlist anyway. If you can't figure out how to receive gifted books and you can't suck it up to enjoy whatever your elf chooses for you, maybe an exchange is not really the best idea for you.
4- Let people know if used books are okay. Sometimes a gently used hardcover is preferable to a new MMP, and sometimes people enjoy used book sales. If it's not mentioned at all, new would be the way to go.
Also, we usually have one or two posts where questions are asked and participants will answers. So even if you forget to ask a questions it might be answered in one of those posts.
OMG EXCHANGES ARE SO MUCH FUN!

@84Lauren - It was a few years ago. I can't even remember her name, I just remember feeling very bitter about it. She had an ereader and either couldn't receive ebooks as gifts or didn't know how or something. She said that's how it worked for ebooks, I should send her a $25 GC with a list of books I had picked out from her wishlist, and that if I sent paper books anyway she wouldn't read them.
My own box was adorably filled with paper strips and had a beautiful bookmark, my elf had just really taken her time to make it super special for me, and that is what it's really about. I remember her name!
That is sad.
