bugs in basement

We always get either millipedes/centipedes in our basement. So gross! Is there a certain spray thats recommended to get rid of them? Would it be something for the perimeter of the house?

Re: bugs in basement

  • I might call an exterminator. They can tell you the best way to deal with them and they really aren't that expensive. Otherwise, you can try that Ortho spray around the inside and outside perimeter. I wonder if a dehumidifier would help too. I don't know what those are attracted to.

From what I see, they like dampness. Use a dehumidifier and caulk up all cracks and holes. See link above.

  • We do use a dehumidifier. I will look into the Ortho spray.

  • I've read that bugs hate the smell of vinegar, so I heard using a mixture of vinegar and water to mop the floors keeps them away, but that only works if you have hard floors.

We have a pet friendly bug deterrent spray that we just sprayed around the house and it worked within a couple days. We had ants by our house and were worried they might be getting in, the day after we sprayed the stuff we saw the ants moving across our driveway and by night they were completely gone. They haven't moved back either!

Would you mind letting me know what you used? I hate using chemicals, but sometimes, I give up!
