Book recommendation for kids

I just picked up the book Room on the Broom from Barnes and Noble and I really love it! It has a fair amount of words per page so it is better for a child with a longer attention span. I think it is recommended for children 3 and up. It has a couple qualities that I like- a repeating element, rhymes, has a good cadence, introduces some good vocab (clambered, keen, bounded), and has a focus on a positive message. I also dont have trouble reading this one with dramatic emphasis to make it more entertaining. It is out right now with Halloween stuff but I think it would be enjoyable throughout the year. If you see it you might want to check it out.

I could hold you for a million years
To make you feel my love.

  • Awesome thanks! We are always looking for new books :) we have gotten some really good ones for the library that I am going to add to our collection. One is a board book called Move and it has flaps which is fun and the other was a paper book called The Bear Snores On and it is a sing song book which I love!

  • I will have to check those out. I love finding great books. After reading Nurture Shock I have been paying a lot more attention to the content and have been trying to find books that demonstrate pro-social behavior rather than books that focus on behavior problems and a resolution at the end. There are plenty of neutral books that are fine too. Perhaps it won't make any difference, but you never know.
