best/worst book in August?

Most and least favorite book you read this month? What made it amazing or disappointing?

I only read 3 books this month - they were all incredible:
An Echo In The Bone
Winter of the World
The Golem and the Jinni

If only every month could be so good.

Re: best/worst book in August?

  • The best was Me Before You by Jojo Moyes.  I cannot even begin to describe how wonderful this book was and how much it affected me.  I can't wait to suggest it for my IRL book club, I think it could spark some really interesting conversations.

The worst was When Did I Get Like This? by Amy Wilson.  It wasn't terrible, it was just okay.  I was also expecting it to be somewhat different, so that could be why I didn't like it much.

  • Best was "Me Before You". Worst "A Reliable Wife" by Robert Goolrick

  • I only finished 3 this month. Phantom of the Opera was def. my least favorite. Favorite would be a tie between the other two, Mariana and Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone.

  • The worst by far was The Short Second Life of Bree Tanner by Stephanie Myer. I know I wasn't going to like it but I have always felt like I should read it. I am not a fan of Twilight but I felt this short of a work gave her less time to attempt to get me to like her characters.

The best was The Stpeford Wives. I loved how twisted the whole thing was. I mean I am not into scary stuff so this book allowed enough creepy thoughts to roam my mind without it being about blood and murder and demonic beings.

Overall it was a great month for reading!

  • EX Heroes, 5 stars I loved it!

Study in Scarlet, I rated 3 stars, it wasn't bad or anything but technically it's my worst for the month.

  • Best: The Midwife's Confession by Diane Chamberlain. It was a wonderfully written book, and it kept me guessing until the end, which I liked.

Worst: Georgetown Academy Books 1&2 by Jessica Koosed Etting. These were free ebooks that I picked up, so for that, they really weren't terrible. They were just super light and fluffy and had no real depth to them. I still enjoyed them, and it was nice to have some quick reads.

  • I only finished two in August so that's easy. Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban was my fave and Oh, Baby by Tia Mowry was my least. Maybe 3 stars. it wasn't bad but I knew most of what she had to say. Read it in a day so no big deal.

    Best:
Surrender to Sultry by Macy Beckett. This book had me either laughing or tearing up the whole time. So good.

    Worst:
Until There Was You by Kristan Higgins, which was 3 stars. It was my first by her and I would have rated it higher if Liam hadn't been so rude throughout the book. He got on my nerves.

I had a pretty good reading month though. I liked all the books.

  • Best: Last Sacrifice (VA #6).  I thought it was a good end for the series.

Worst: Deadlocked (Sookie #12).  I think everyone has the same complaints about this book.  Most of the book is spent on mundane things.  How many times do I have to read that she took a shower?

  • I kind of loved all the books I read in August. It was an awesome month for me! I guess maybe my least favorite was the third BDB book, Lover Awakened. My favorite book was probably Best Staged Plans by Claire Cook.

  • Best: Me Before You by Jojo Moyes. This was probably the best book I have read this year actually.

Worst: What I Didn't Say by Keary Taylor. I really thought the premise was interesting but was so disappointed by this one.

  • The Worst:

Taking Chances by Molly McDonald. Quite a few cliches that in the end made this book very fantastical to me.

    Along with

Gorgeous by Paul Rudnick for basically the same reasons.

    The Best:

If You Find Me by Emily Murdoch. It's a fast read that actually feels realistic.

  • Best: Sultry with a Twist  I loved the blend of funny and steamy, and it was great to have a romance heroine who wasn't completely oblivious/stupid.

Worst: Shantaram Not worth the effort. The plot had no idea where it was going, and it took too long trying to get there.
