I'm supposed to be closing on my house tomorrow after a torturous 5 month process and still have not been told when to show up for the signing. I was woke up at 10:30 this morning with a call from my lender telling me to expect a call to make an appointment to sign either this afternoon (which is over with now) or tomorrow morning; otherwise, they have to ask for another extension. I have not received a single call from anyone but my realtor since then and my lender is apparently unavailable. To sign tomorrow, they want to do it in the morning, which is great but I work nights and only got 3 hours of sleep due to waiting for the phone call today. Now I'm going to have to stay up and wait after I get home from work in the morning. Is it normal to not receive a call until the very last minute, even if they've had the papers for a whole day?

How aggravating! I have only bought one house but, I also knew about one week ahead of time the exact time, date, and place. At least once everything was totally finalized, there had been a couple extensions to get to that point.
I bought a foreclosure and it was really the selling agent who was just a nightmare through the whole process. I had even ALREADY CLOSED, gone home, and got a panicked phone call from the title company (who did the closing) later that afternoon that the selling agent said I'd never given them the $1,000 earnest money deposit (rolling eyes). But just an example of there is crazy stuff that happens all the time around closing.
