Ok to piggyback on the discussion awhile ago about things you notice in weddings since your wedding has passed: are there things you have silently judged in said weddings? I feel like I became way more judgy pants since coming into the knot! Most things haven't bothered me if they weren't perfect etiquette in the weddings we've been to. My brother was going to do a PPD (as they refer to it on the knot) and I voiced my opinion, but luckily they aren't now and had a lovely elopement that was perfect for them.
I just received a save the date for friends' wedding in Nov. I had been telling her they weren't necessary since they were less than 6 months out, but less than 3 months?! Seems silly. Even h, was like yeah the invitation came, wait its just the save the date?? But the thing that does kind of annoy me is that they are having a shuttle so the website mentions the pickup and return time. And the departure time is 8:30. Which seems really early, not a big deal. It wouldn't bother me if the bride hasn't made a big fuss to myself and another friend a few months ago when we were talking about how we both wanted to start trying in a few months and the bride said don't get pregnant before our wedding!!! I let that roll off because we obviously aren't going to plan that around other weddings, but now it perturbs me that she would say that and they wedding ends at 8:30! How drunk do you think we would get by that point! Lol. At least if I am pregnant by that point, there is a good chance I could drive us home after the wedding at that hour!!
Also, I have a friend who I see daily who got married 2 months after us who still haven't sent out thank yous! I secretly judge them because I think that is common courtesy, not just poor wedding etiquette.
I know both are silly things things to "judge" and I use that term lightly, but it got me thinking whether I would have batted an eye 1) before planning our wedding, & 2) before lurking so much on the knot and learning a lot about etiquette. Anyone else feel similar??

Re: I judge

  • And here I thought it was bad that we got a STD for a wedding for a November wedding in July.  The fact that you just got one is even worse.  Either was, I think I would feel just as you do, except about the Thank you's and that's only because I am terrible about writing them myself.

    my read shelf:
Cathy (CathyL7910)'s book recommendations, liked quotes, book clubs, book trivia, book lists (read shelf)
  • Get this: I was recently asked "we would love to invite you to our wedding if you think you could make it?" via FB like 2 months before the wedding, and almost certainly after the first set of invites went out.  AKA we were on the "Plan B" guest list!!  Hey, maybe money is tight, or something, so I said yes.  But, come on...

Meh.  Planning is stressful and weddings are expensive so I try to give everyone the benefit of the doubt, but that was a weird one for sure.

  • I know that everyone does things based on their own personal taste and budget, but I can't help but judge when people do things that are a) rude and b) tacky. I'm really big on etiquette (it hurts me when people say they don't care about etiquette), I'll let some things slide, but...

    1) printing ADULT RECEPTION on the invite when you could simply address the invite only to those invited (aka John and Jane Smith instead of The Smith Family) drives me crazy... it also makes me think of a XXX rated reception LOL
    2) I've received a wedding thank you note that was not handwritten, just a picture (kind of like a Christmas card). If someone took time to buy you something, you can take 5 minutes and write something.
    3) Not addressing things to my actual name. I didn't change my name when DH and I got married (for a number of reasons). I'll let it slide if someone truly doesn't know that I kept my name, but it drives me crazy when people who know I kept my name don't take the time to address an envelope properly.

I LOL'd at work at this.  I've had the same thought before.  Hilarious!

I never thought it was ok to put "Adult reception" on an invitation, especially after I read etiquette on how to convey that.  A friend was married right before H and I and had to put it on the invite in addition to address the invites to Mr. & Mrs John Doe, she said her family doesn't understand or care how it worked.  She still had relatives RSVP for the children who were not invited.  One aunt and uncle RSVPd for 5 I believe.  Their invite was addressed only to them.  They just didn't take the hint.

I definitely judge everything.  I try not to, but I do.  I went to a wedding in July.  He asked me in the spring how I wanted my invite addressed, then asked me about 2 weeks before what table I wanted to sit at (obviously the table with the people I know and work with every day, he was going to seat me with friends I've met once or twice), then he asked how he wanted my place card written.  Every time I referred him to etiquette and his response was, "But different people prefer different things."  I had a field day with another friend at his wedding!
