Is it AF, or not?

So I had posted on Friday that AF came while at work.  Well that was pretty much just bright red spotting that was there for about 3-4 hours then went away.
Then Saturday and Sunday was the same thing. I only needed a pantyliner for the whole day, each day.  Today, it's back to brown spotting that is barely anything.
I did not O this cycle, and Friday was CD32.  I'm still not sure if I should put Friday or Saturday as CD1, or even consider it AF at all.  The last 2 periods have been similar to this, but 1 was brought on by Provera and the other one I actually O'd (after 72 days).
If I do consider this AF, then I need to go in and get the U/S done, and start Clomid.  But I don't want to do those 2 things if it shouldn't be considered AF.  Also, it isn't abnormal for me to spot throughout my cycle.
Any thoughts?

Re: Is it AF, or not?

  • Call you doctor. It could be mid-cycle spotting because it wasn't heavy enough for more than a liner but with that many days and bright red and you saying your last couple AF's have been this light I'd assume it's AF.
The u/s will be able to tell you if it was AF or not and whether you should start Clomid.

  • If it isn't breakthrough bleeding, I would not consider it AF.

But it is odd to me that your provera induced AF was similar. I would put a call in to your doctor. Is this a sudden change in your cycle?
  • @bruinsbabe33 This is a sudden change. I haven't had a cycle shorter than 50 days in over 6 months. It's normal for me to have breakthrough bleeding, but it's never red.

When on Provera, the Dr said that any blood is considered a response. It was very similar to this. Pretty much just bright red spotting for 3 days.

  • All of my cycles seem to be different- from cycles with very light spotting only, to very heavy, to medium. I've bled while pregnant, not bled during miscarriage, etc. So I don't trust my body.

I would first take a pregnancy test and then call the doctor either way.

  • Like ecinereb said, definitely put a call in. They will be able to tell if you shed your lining or not.
  • I put a call in to the nurse, but she wasn't sure whether to consider it AF or not.  So she's contacting the Dr and I'm waiting to hear back.

At least she noticed that we do not have IF coverage, and said she doesn't want me to come in and get the U/S done and waste our time and money if it wasn't AF.

  • @ecinereb & @islandmonkey8

The Dr is considering it AF, and I go in on Friday for the U/S. I started the Clomid this morning and will take it days 5-9.

Guess there's a plus to this. If that's what AF is going to be from now on, I can handle that.

  • @islandmonkey8 Thank you. I'm not nervous at all, except that I'm not too excited about having an ultrasound wand put up my hoohah. That doesn't sound like fun.

  • Good luck! Although the point of the baseline u/s is that it's done before you start the drugs. Seems weird that they would do it after.

  • @ecinered It's because of my schedule and the Dr's scheduling. Normally he would do it on day 3, and you would start Clomid then.  But that was on Labor Day, and the scheduling doesn't work till Friday. So he said that he should be able to see what he's looking for then. Even though it will be CD7.  He also said with my long cycles that I may as well start the Clomid now, because it could be another 3 months before I get AF again.

It's fine. Seriously. Don't worry about it. But they sure do use a lot of goo, so ask for lots of tissue or use the restroom before you leave :-P
