Re: CBH CPW: Work after kids

  • I'd love to stay at home.  With or without kids.  :)

But realistically, I will work either part or full time.

IUI - BFP! Baby boy born still - August 2012
    IVF - BFP - miscarriage June 2013
    FET - BFN
    FET - BFN
    Switched clinics
IVF with PGD - three embryos created, all healthy - July 2014
FET - transferred two embryos (boy and girl) - Nov 2014 - BFP!
    Baby Boy born July 2015

  • I would love to be able to stay home, but I know I will have to go back to working full time.  Then again...depending on how long it takes to get pregnant, maybe I will be able to just work part time.

  • As much as I want to be a stay at home Mom or work Part Time... I will probably end up working full time once my baby is a couple months old. If everything goes planned I could probably stay home for 3 months then work part time 3 months then return full time.

  • We can't afford to lose an income, so I'll still be working FT as will DH. So long as we stay in our current area, we shouldn't have to pay for daycare either, since my dad and his mom don't work.

The hope is that I'll at least be able to work a few days a week from home, though,

  • I will be going back to work. My view is that I didn't pay $60k for a degree, to stay home. I also really enjoy my job, and we like our lifestyle. If one of us stayed home, then we would definitely have to cut back on a lot of things. Neither one of us wants to do that.

  • We've talked about the possibility of me taking a one year leave to stay home while said imaginary baby is young and impressionable.   But honestly, I do love my job, so I don't know that I'd want to stay away for a year.

I'm hoping my ovulation schedule works out so that we can have a baby in April or May, then I'd take the rest of the year off and have the summer tied together.

  • I'll be a SAHM. I don't make a ton of money and daycare is ridiculously expensive in our area. I would basically be working to pay for daycare, so it really just wouldn't make sense. I'm also extremely lucky to be in a situation where DH can support us financially.

    ...hello out there!

  • I'm in Canada so we get a year of maternity leave (it's not fully paid but we do get some). Then I'll go back to work, probably F/T but possibly slightly reduced hours. I'm really lucky that my schedule is really flexible and DH's is 4 on/4 off so we'll likely only need P/T daycare.

  • We could make it work if I stayed home. I think I will use FMLA for a year of ML and see how I feel after. I would love to stay home for a few years and then get back into teaching, but I love the school I'm in right now. I know FMLA doesn't guarantee that I'll have the same position there (which grade I teach), but it's nice to know it's an option.

  • Part of my would love to be a SAHM, but another part of me would know I would go crazy if I was. I would love to do part time. We will see what happens. We really love our lifestyle, so that would be a factor. With DH's career change last year, it might actually be feasible for me to work part time.

  • I'd LOVE to be a SAHM. Second choice would be to go back PT.

Then reality hits me and I realize it'd probably be the best if I just sucked it up and went back to work FT. I really would like to work bare minimum FT though. Or I could find a job that I love doing so I wouldn't want to stay home, lol.
  • I work 1/2 time (11:45am-3:30 pm) but I am the primary breadwinner. I can work extra if I want to, but am not required. I plan to keep this schedule & DH will keep working his schedule (6:45pm-7:15am, 3 nights a week). This will allow us to have very little daycare.

  • We are planning on me being a SAHM. I adore my job, but I make peanuts compared to my H and daycare just wouldn't be worth it. We don't have family close enough to watch a child regularly. I hope to possibly work PT once my kids enter elementary school.

A woman in my district used it to get a year. I don't know how it worked, but I checked with my union rep, and she said it can happen (unpaid, obviously).

  • We've waited a while to have kids so that we can be in the financial position for me to SAH. I don't make enough for it to make sense to do daycare unfortunately. I might be able to swing PT WFH, but I'm still new at my current job so I haven't really tested the waters yet and don't know what options there are.

  • I'll keep working and depending on what job Dh has at the time (he tends to bounce around) he will either keep working too or else be a stay at home Dad.  My income is enough to support us so it really depends on daycare costs as to whether Dh's job would be worth keeping or if it'd make more sense for him to stay home.

While I think I'd enjoy staying home for a while I know that I need my work...I love what I do and have busted my butt to get where I am.

  • I can work my 40 in 3 days. So I might be doing that.
  • I would get a year off at full pay, so I would take that.  I think I would go crazy staying at home longer, and I like my job. We could survive with only DH's salary, but we wouldn't get to have as much fun as we would with two salaries.

Not everyone gets full pay, but I'm (very) lucky to have a job where our salary is topped up to 100%.  The one-year maternity/paternity leave is country-wide, but I think employment insurance pays only about 50-60% of your salary (and there's a cap).

  • We're still trying to decide what to do about this. I really am not attached to my job, aside from the whole paycheck/health insurance thing. I'll at least be going back part time, and my MIL will help out with childcare somewhat, and DH and I will be working more flexible hours and some days at home since daycare is flipping expensive. I'm thinking the part time hours will make me hate my job less, so that'll be a win.
