CPW: Do you wash your cat?

edited September 2013 in Getting Pregnant
No this is not a euphemism related to the CP below :)

If you have a feline, do you bathe it in any way.

  • I don't have a cat, but I love that you knew where my mind was.
  • My MIL gives her cats baths before she puts that flea stuff on their neck. I helped her once, it wasn't fun.

  • I'm a special spermflake: I only wash my cats if they make a mess of themselves (ie: get poo on their fur.) Shit happens. They fight butt baths tooth and nail, I can't imagine what a full on bath would do to them.
  • We did once, and it was not pretty, and I felt bad because Kitten looked so ashamed.

  • I've bathed my cat once. He cried and meowed so bad that it made me cry while washing him.  H had to come in and save me, because I felt like I was killing him.

My cat also rarely ever comes out, and doesn't trust people. So I try not to make him afraid of letting me hold him.

  • I have bathed them in the past... DH has walked away with MANY MANY battle scars from washing one which we now refuse to bathe. The other one is long haired and I bathed him once in the past 2 years only because he had something wrong with his coat.

  • Sammy (with her full set of claws) does NOT get bathed unless it's absolutely necessary (like when I found fleas on everyone).

Scamp, however, needs to start getting regular baths, much as she hates it. She's got skin issues, and I think bathing her about once a month should help immensely. She doesn't inflict damage, but she looks pitiful as all get out during the process.

  • Only when necessary... Like when they go to the vet/car and pee on themselves or if my allergies are flaring up. Ideally, I'd like to bathe them every couple months just bc of my cat allergies as it helps give me some relief, but that doesnt happen often. Maybe a couple times a year at most. I do love how funny they look when soaking wet though lol

T-TTC since Dec 2008. PCOS/nonexistant cycles(anovulation) and endo. HSG in '10 revealed both tubes blocked. Lap surgery in Dec '10 to correct. Failed Clomid/IUI and injectable(Bravelle)/IUI cycles so far.

This makes sense. I saw somebody post on FB about it and was wondering if I've been a bad cat mama all of these years.  I think if I started them up after 14 years my cat would likely revolt.

  • I have washed mine when he got fleas, but most of the time he just seems so miserable around water that I can't do it.

  • I voted SS. We have washed our kitty before but she is declawed in the front so she can't scratch us to death. We washed her before the surgery a time or two as well. We haven't done it for at least 5-6 months though because it's just not necessary.

I wish I could bath our other cat because she stinks sometimes but I don't want to die!

  • I read this as "car" not "cat". I do not have a cat. I do wash my car on the regular. Good day.

  • We do. I will try anything to tame the our of control shedding the cat does. He was declawed before he went to the shelter H got him at.

  • This post makes me LOL!

The only time I have washed a cat was when she had pee on her.  It did not go well.
