Work rant

I am training people all week this week. Each day, one of our new employees goes with me to all my appointments to see what I do in my sessions. The girl with me today wants to sit with me all day, when I'm in my office, doing notes, everything. I feel like I have an annoying mini me. Do you really need to watch me make phone class and learn how to check your email? The twisted side of me wants to do something stupid to mess with her. I'm trying to play nice but this is the 6th person that I have had to train in 2 months and that is not part of my job. Sorry rant over.

"I DO NOT love that you think so many things revolve around you.  I know you're bitter.  I get it.  But I'm over your feelings." The best person on the internet ever!
  • I would hate that too.

  • How's she supposed to learn if no one teaches her? It may be annoying, but it would be worse if she was never trained, right?

Ask for more money if training is required but not in your job description.

  • I agree with @lilliesandvino

Allow her to learn how all aspects of the job are. Not just visiting clients.  She needs to know how the stuff works out at the office also. Even if it feels annoying and tedious.

  • @lilliesandvino I work for a government agency with a set salary.  No raises here.

The one today is actually not bad.  She's had some experience but is very meek and mild.  They just have not been hiring good quality people lately and it is frustrating trying to train them.  One girl last week told me she does not drive on the interstate.  We go to people's homes all over Houston and surrounding areas in the county.  I had to wait for her to get to every appointment because she refused to take the interstate.

Another girl told one of my coworkers that she did not want to be assigned clients in "ghetto" areas because she is blonde, white girl.  She said that she does not understand "those" people because she has not lived in that kind of area.  @-) Ummm....really?!  I am a blonde, white girl...what the heck is that supposed to mean???  We treat clients with a mental illness and low income.  When people say these things, it just makes my blood boil and I don't want to deal with training them.

  • Yeah that's shitty. Those kinds of people don't belong in the helping professions. I wouldn't be mean to them, just educate them on the realities of the job and how you need to leave any judgement at the door.

However, if you really think they're inappropriate for the job, maybe it's good that you tell your supervisor so they can keep them away from the clients.
