How long does your SO take to get ready in the morning?

Okay, here's a light-hearted topic for you. How long does your SO take to get ready in the morning? (Or for work, if they work shifts?) I'm curious because my DH takes what I consider to be an insane amount of time. He needs a minimum of 30 minutes, and an hour is not unheard of. I wouldn't care, except that he says he doesn't have time to watch our son so I can have a quick shower. (Which takes me 5 mins, 10 if I blow dry my hair.) I think it's crazy that when he has an hour before he needs to leave for work, there's "no time" for me to shower. I love my dh, but he's a slow mover and disorganized, which contributes to the problem. I'm sick of starting the day by arguing over whether or not I can shower, and curious how long other men take to get ready. Thanks!! :)

Re: How long does your SO take to get ready in the morning?

  • Just to take a shower, not that long. But he gets up about 2 hours before he needs to leave for work- irons his clothes, shines his shoes, walks the dogs, feeds them, plays in the yard some, surfs the web, checks some emails, just messes around.

Me, on the other hand, gets up at the last possible second to take a shower and get ready.

  • Tell him to get his butt out of bed 5 min earlier!  Come on!  As for me, he takes about 30 min in the morning from bed to car.
  • im never home when my DH is getting ready for work since we work different hours.  But in general i would say he is fast. Quick shower, shave and get dressed.  He does get up earlier to eat, have coffee and surf the web.  I take much longer to get ready and eat breakfast at work.

  • My DH can get ready for work in the blink of an eye. He works as an aeronautical mechanic so his work is very casual about dress (most guys wear old jeans and ratty t-shirts since they get all sorts of chemicals and gunk on them anyways). On a normal day he'll get up, throw on a pair of jeans and tshirt and some tennis shoes and call it good (2 minutes tops). On days when he shaves he'll add another minute to the routine to trim up his goatee and sideburns. He takes a shower at night so he doesn't worry about that in the morning.

He does have back problems that seem to bother him the most right after he wakes up, so he usually gets up a few hours before he needs to leave for work to give him some time to stretch and for me to give him a massage.

  • DH takes about 15-20 with shower, shaving, dressing, brushing teeth, and putting in contacts.

    Ditto to this
  • Dude, I would lose my mind if my H thought watching his child wasn't part of his job as a parent. He had time to help you make the kid, so he has time to help you take care of the kid. End of story.

  • At least half an hour.  DH moves at exactly one speed.  He wakes up ten minutes late, he's ten minutes late for work.  The concept of "hurry up" is completely lost on him.  Drives me insane.

I get up and am out the door for work in 15 minutes or less and that includes making myself a lunch lol

  • Kimbus22, mine is exactly the same!! He can't cut anything out of his routine, even if he's late. He'll still be dawdling around the kitchen, making coffee, instead of moving his butt out the door and making coffee at work. Too funny.
  • Mine takes probably 30-45 minutes, which I think is reasonable. He gets up, brushes his teeth, takes maybe a 5-10 minute shower, shaves, puts on his work clothes (slacks, belt, undershirt, shirt, socks, shoes) and then eats breakfast. When you add it all up, 30 minutes seems pretty fast to do all this.

I think the problem you have is that he's not getting up early enough, not that he's taking too long to get ready. If it takes him an hour, fine, but then he needs to get up half an hour earlier so you can shower while he watches the baby.
  • My DH is SOOO slow in the mornings.  No matter what it takes him over an hour to get out of the house.  I just don't get it because if I need to rush it is 10-15 min or if I'm not in a hurry about 30 minutes.  I like my sleep so my routine is quick!
  • DH is slow in the shower, but makes up time in getting dressed. I'd say total it takes him 45 mins. Unless he has to poop. Wtf takes men so long when it comes to pooping??? He seriously takes 30 mins to go. If he doesn't have to go, he's pretty good. He usually gets mad at me because I shower/wash up quickly but I have a LOT of hair to brush, and have to deal with things he doesn't, such as make up and jewelry.

    I agree completely.

My H takes 40 minutes from wake up to out the door. He's slow waking up so 20+ minutes is shower. When we have kids he'll have to adjust. We'll work it out.
  • He takes between 15-30 minutes depending on if he gets distracted :) He is easily distracted it would probably be only 10-15 minutes if he didn't wander around so much.

  • It takes my DH about 10 minutes to get up out of bed and head out the door. Occasionally it takes longer if there is something special he has to do before leaving. He showers, sets out his cloths and makes his good the night before. That's the only reason he's so quick.

It takes me about an hour to get ready. I'm a really slow mover in the morning. It takes me even longer if I'm not feeling well. Once in a blue moon the stars align and I get get ready in 15 minutes
