WIJFR: Siege and Storm (SP)

OMG ALL OF MY FEELINGS RIGHT NOW.

I am all up in them and I can't get out.

I can't even begin to form coherent thoughts. The Darkling! He's such a douche but he's such a charming douche. In fact, all of the damned men in this series are charming! GAH!

I am in love with Nikolai. I can't help it, I was rooting for him. I know Alina's true love is Mal and all that, but Nikolai is just so funny and smart and he gets her.

Also, what was up with Alina getting that little blast of power when Mal grabbed her wrist? I can't get that out of my head. Is he the firebird? What? Maybe there is something special about the place they were born? Something weird is going on there.

The ending seriously had me biting my nails and completely freaking out. When Nikolai figured out what Vasily had done? My stomach dropped. The tension! That was just insane. This whole book was so wonderfully well written and so delightfully original. I absolutely loved it.

GENYA! :( Poor thing. But I guess that's what she deserves for being a little bit of a backstabbing bitch.

And I fully believe that Alina will get her powers back in the next book (I think the last little epilogue even hinted at that?) and I think it also said that Nikolai had survived, right? If he is not okay in the next book I WILL NOT BE OKAY.

I will have more thoughts soon.

  • OOoo! I didn't think about Mal being the Firebird!!!! Eeeeeeeeensteresting!

I think I love these books partly because she somehow makes me like even the "bad guys". (Most of them, anyway.) Unlike Gone Girl, where I hated everyone.

Right? The Darkling is the most interesting character of all. You hate him and hate him and hate him and then he shows up and you're like "Why did I hate him again?"

  • I seriously didn't even think about Mal being the firebird, I do think that the area they came from might have something to do with it, and will help them find the firebird, but that is making me think, @Elistar!

I loved Nikolai, and loved the relationship that formed between he and Alina, and I don't think we've seen the last of him. He was too good of a character.

The Darkling is a SOB, but I agree, he is so freaking charming. I still can't get over what he did to Baghra!

Alina WILL get her powers back....it's got to happen, and I have a feeling that Nikolai will end up being an integral part in helping her with that.

I really want to re-read these now!

I miss Nikolai already. The dialogue between him and Alina was SO freaking awesome.

I re-read that part where he touched her wrists like ten times. WHAT IS GOING ON?! GAH!

    Poor Bahgra :(

    AHHH!

I could have written this review almost work for word. Especially the bolded parts. Though I hadn't thought of Mal as the firebird either.

I kind of love The Darkling. I mean, I hate him of course, but I kinda love him.

And if Mal IS the Firebird does that mean he will have to die? OMG I CAN'T.

The Darkling is the best villain ever. Ever ever ever.

  • OMFG! These books!!! I just finished Siege & Storm like 2 seconds ago. This post was taunting me the whole time!

First of all, I freakin LOVE the Darkling.  Part of me hopes that the Darkling isn't as awful as we think and they will wind up together, ruling Ravka until the end of all time and stuff.

Second, I freakin LOVE Nikolai too! Damn it! Can't she end up with both of them? I will not even entertain the thought that he does make it. He will fly out of there on the Kingfisher in a blaze of glory, damn it!

Mal: I am totally with the Firebird theory because of the sizzle when he put his hand around her wrist. Something special/magical/whatever has to be going on with him with his super-duper tracker ability as well. I know it is awful and that I should be rooting for him, but I found myself kind of hoping that some tragedy would befall him. I am also thinking that maybe Alina has to kill Mal (aka the possible Firebird) to gain him as the third amplifier. Together Alina an Nikolai will defeat the Darkling and live HEA?

Poor Genya! I know she was a backstabber and all, but that shit is just awful. I loved when Alina told Tamar (or was it Tolya, or both) to cut out the tongues of anyone who called her Ruined.

S/O Tolya & Tamar: I was totally surprised by them being part of the pilgrims, but I still love them for some reason.

Those 2 statements sum up my thoughts on the romance aspect of this book. I just can't support Mal, even if I feel like I should.

I have mixed feelings on Genya. I have a hard time forgiving her, even if she is "ruined". Random: wouldn't being a tailor make her able to adjust her physical look?
