To all of you hockey fans...

Tell me what your favorite thing about hockey is.

It's a sport that I was never really exposed to but H is a huge fan. My brother has season tickets to the Flyers and my H was super jealous so this year I got him partial season tickets. I won't be going to every single game with him but I will go to a lot of them and I want to get into it! I'm an aggressive mess so it seems like something I'll like ;) My brother loves all sports but he says that hockey games are the best professional sports games to go to live. Agree? Disagree? Tell me why!

  • It's fast moving, the rules aren't mind boggling, it takes a lot of skill and the players generally aren't whiny overpaid babies.

    GO Rangers!

I played hockey, so did my brother (H did too) so we've been around hockey and I basically lived in hockey rinks for most of my life.

I like that it's fast paced, intense, the fights are fun to watch (they get broken up quickly and people don't usually get very hurt) and I know and understand all of the rules. I also feel like they are the least paid pro athletes and it makes them seem more down to earth.

  • Also, the games aren't usually hours and hours long. I feel like football takes FOREVER to complete a game and I get so bored.

  • I went to a lot of hockey games growing up because there's an AHL team in my home state and my Uncle had season tickets. I agree that it's fast paced and doesn't drag like some other sports. I like that it's broken up into 3 - 20 minute periods and when play stops it usually isn't for very long. I think that helps with the lack of dragging. It's also pretty easy to pick up the rules and what's going on.

  • We used to have a local team and honestly to watch hockey on tv is pretty boring to me. However LIVE is a whole new story. Kushie is right it's pretty simple and easy to understand the rules and the game in general but the fights are what make it worth it to be live in my opinion.

Eventually they break them up but just to see a fight start out of no where makes it so fun and interesting. It keeps me paying attention because you don't want to miss it.

Lol me too! Good luck with your new coach @kushie77 We'll miss him in Vancouver
  • I agree with everyone's comments. I like that it is fast paced, the fights, etc. I also used to go to games with my dad in my hometown when I was little, so I have watched itba longbtimw. My DH also like to go watch the local AHL team now too.

I have an opportunity to go to my first NHL game (Redwings) this Dec for free. It is a Big Brothers Big Sisters fundraiser thing. I don't know if I will be able to go though, because my little one will only be 3 weeks (sorry that was BR).

  • I used to play hockey as well, and it was my dream to play for UNH and in the Olympics. Clearly, those things never happened! I have always loved to game because its fast paced and it takes skill to skate and handle that frozen puck. You have to really pay attention! Games generally don't drag on for hours and its easy to watch on TV, though going to a game is way more exciting. Personally, I prefer college hockey over professional.

Not whiny? No one remembers the lock out I guess!
  • Thanks ladies! All of your responses have gotten me even more excited for our first game. We're going to a preseason game on the 24th.

What I meant was the get hurt, they go the locker room, get patched up and are back out on the ice the next period -for the most part.  Some other sports they break a fingernail and they are out and on the injured, and rehab rosters for months.
