Wisdom Teeth

On Monday I am having my both my bottom wisdom teeth removed. I have read the pamphlets from my dentist about aftercare and such, but I really want to know how I will feel afterwords, will I be able to go back to work on Tuesday? Or will I need to lay in bed for a few days?

Have any of you ladies had your wisdom teeth out? How was it?

Re: Wisdom Teeth

  • I had mine out, but mine were both impacted so it was a little more of a big deal.  I don't think I would have wanted to go to back to work the next day as my mouth was still sore and swollen, but that was just me.  The worst part for me was not being able to eat solids- my stitches took forever to dissolve so it was almost 3 weeks before they were gone.  Otherwise, it wasn't that bad :)  Good luck!

  • I had my uppers done in the dentist's office and ate pizza that night with only taking motrin. My lowers were a whole different story, they were impacted so badly the oral surgeon had to do them in the OR at the hospital,  and cracked my jaw trying to get them out, but that's an extreme case.

  • I had all four taken out at the same time. My face looked like a chipmunk with nuts in its mouth. That lasted for a few days. I ate a lot of ice chips and popsicles, which helps with swelling. I didn't go to work the next day because it was still painful. You may be different and play it by ear and how you feel. Good luck!
  • I had all four of mine taken out and I was in more pain than I was a few months earlier when I had gotten my tonsils out.

I would at least take Tuesday off and see how you feel.

  • I've never had mine out they have just never came in. However I know several people who have had there's removed and they usually take a day or 2 after the procedure off and usually stock up on ice cream and jello for a few days.
  • I only had my lower left one taken out. It was just out of line and barely peeping through my gums. My dentist wanted to just pull it, but since then I've gotten a new dentist who said he never would have attempted such a thing. The root of my tooth was hooked around my jaw and my dentist literally just tugged for 45 minutes. It healed nicely over a span of probably 3 or 4 weeks and I was on Vicodin. I don't think I missed any work or school though. I was just out of it...

I only had 3 so only 3 where removed I was put to sleep so do not remember anything the worst part was the shots of novacain. Pain was not bad after and I healed fast. It isn't bad I have had teeth pulled for braces, and 2 regular after because my orthodontist didn't do his job right. After My wisdom teeth I had 1 tooth in my gums that the ortho never brought it down when I had brace so after wisdom teeth got pulled it relieved the pressure in my gums and ipthat one tooth impacted the tooth behind it and had to get both removed sorry a bit off topic but getting them pulled isnt bad for me anyways a couple days after I was eating solid foods or pretty close.

  • I got 2 of mine out at a time and I was fine. Took extra strength Tylenol for a bit. I didn't swell or bruise. I know I went to work the next day

  • I've had all 4 of mine taken out. I was fine and I even went out later that night.

H had his taken out a few weeks after I did and he had a terrible experience. He got two dry sockets. He was out of commission for awhile.

If I were you, I would at least take off on Tuesday. Even if you do feel better, you'll have the day off!

  • I had mine out in high school. I was out of commission for a while because I don't like strong pain killers. I think I was out of it for a weekend. I would definitely take the day after the surgery off and go from there. Good luck!

  • I had all 4 done at the same time. The bottom two were impacted and they had to be drilled out. I was on a twilight drip and the stuff they inject into your gums and I could feel the bottom ones being drilled out.... OUCH!

I was out of it the day of and ate a lot of cottage cheese and applesauce and spaghetti o's. The next day, I went to an Indians game with my cousin for her birthday. I even ate french fries through my two front teeth with my chipmunk cheeks.

I had my surgery the Friday before Labor Day, had the weekend and Monday off. They took the stitches out a week later. I was perfectly fine within a week.

  • I had all 4 of mine removed on a Friday afternoon and went back to work the following Monday. I didn't experience much pain. I think I was lucky. I even went out to dinner with my parents the night I had them pulled out. I think I only ate mashed potatoes. I probably would take Tuesday off if I were you.
