Meal Plan 9/8-9/14

Alright ladies! I am finally actually meal planning! Woohoo :) I went ahead and did the whole month when we went grocery shopping.

Anyway....
What do you have planned for this week? Day by day or just a general list.

Trying anything new?

Any questions?

QOTW-Does your DH cook? And if so, what are his specialties?

Re: Meal Plan 9/8-9/14

• Well we do dinner at my parent's every Sunday so I will start with Monday :)

Monday-Fried Rice (which is really just steamed rice, chunks of pork roast, chunks of carrots, scrambled eggs and soy sauce)

Tuesday-Yummy Chicken recipe that somebody on here rec'd

Wednesday-French Dips

Thursday-Crock pot Fajitas

Friday-Beef Chuck Roast with gravy, potatoes and carrots (MIL and her BF are coming over)

Saturday-Tacos

The yummy chicken and crockpot fajitas are new. We need some new things we are stuck in such a food rut.

No questions yet but I might have some later this week.

DH cooks dinner a lot of nights because I take care of Ava Nichol and do other chores while he does. He makes amazing enchiladas but doesn't make them often. He also makes any breakfast because I am no good at making anything breakfast related!

AW-I made freezer meals for the first time ever :) For later this month!

• What do you have planned for this week? Day by day or just a general list.

We do a general list and usually decide the night before what we'll have.

Sesame chicken, roasted broccoli, rice
Spaghetti & meatballs, homemade garlic knots, salads
French onion turkey burgers, fries, zucchini pancakes
Creamy tomato tortellini soup w/grilled cheese sandwiches
Cheesy chicken shells (add corn) w/ salads
Buffalo ranch chicken avocado (w/lettuce?) quesadillas w/ fries
Spicy sausage pasta w/fresh spinach

Trying anything new?
The sesame chicken and quesadillas are new. We have had the burgers before, but this will be the first time we are making them.

Any questions?
Do you think you'll stick with your plan for the whole month? I find my food mood changes weekly.

QOTW-Does your DH cook? And if so, what are his specialties?

He can cook, though I do the bulk of it. We both agree I'm better and faster. He doesn't have specialties, but he can follow a recipe.

• I made crock pot beef stroganoff for tonight. I don't usually do it in the CP, but DH says that my original family's recipe lacks flavor (sadz. I think it's great!). Plus, I wanted to be able to just have something in the crock pot that I didn't have to worry about. We'll see how it turns out.

P's bedtime schedule kind of restricts dinner time for us. Most nights we start bedtime routine at 6 or 6:15, depending on what time we get home from work and daycare. We go upstairs, read a book if he's not over tired, do his bath and then go into his room to eat and rock to sleep. Depending on the day, sometimes we're not downstairs until 7 or 7:30. He's also been sleeping pretty poorly lately, so we like to go to bed around 9 at the latest. Which leaves little time or desire to cook dinner.

But should we actually make dinners this week, here's our options:

Velveeta boxed cheeseburger mac
Chicken quesadillas
hamburgers
Chicken nuggets and fries
Frozen chinese food - maybe Beef and Broccoli
Tortellini and chicken sausage with sauce

Usually we end up with PB&J for DH and ham and cheese for me.

• @kaiene we eat the same food all the time so this will actually be nice for us to do some different foods. I probably won't stick to the day to day and mix it up a little but we buy groceries for the whole month so it kind of has to work. We go back halfway through the month to get more meat and produce.

Honestly, usually I don't meal plan or make a good shopping list so we get like two weeks worth of good food and then struggle for the last two weeks and then I hate cooking and eating and we waste a lot of money so I am hoping this month goes better.

• Pizza and salad
Chicken breasts, rice/gravy, veggie
Pork tenderloin, baked potato, veggie
Pasta w/ homemade sauce, salad

Friday we'll go out, I hope. I'm out of ideas.

Nothing new this week...but I really need new ideas. I'm bored with our menu.

DH does not cook, my MIL didn't think it was important. He can make macaroni and cheese from a box and grilled cheese if necessary.

I usually plan 2-3 meals for Sunday through Thursday, because we always end up with leftovers. This week it's pot roast with potatoes and carrots, slow cooker chicken teriyaki with rice and broccoli, and tuna salad with an undecided side dish. Both the pot roast and the chicken will definitely yield leftovers. We go out on Fridays, and I generally plan Saturday's dinner on the fly.

Both the pot roast and chicken teriyaki recipes are new this week. The pot roast smells amazing right now, in the slow cooker :)

QOTW: DH cooks, but usually simpler things if he's coming up with a meal on his own, like hamburgers or something. He helps me quite a bit when I cook more elaborate stuff, it's actually one of our favorite things to do together.

Edited for format.

• @ashleymatt1215 that is part of the reason why I am doing this meal planning and related posts. We are in such a food rut. At the same time though I don't want more complicated meals. I like quick and easy with very little prep but tastes delicious and is somewhat healthy.

@pb&fluff Don't feel bad. I have simple things on our meal plan...like grilled cheese and tomato soup, chicken nuggets and FFs, hamburger helper, etc. Sometimes we just feed Ava Nichol leftovers or a toddler meal and then have a fend for ourselves night like sandwiches or corn dogs! This happens more often then I would like it to so that is why I am trying these freezer crockpot meals!

I typically plan all the meals for the week right before I go grocery shopping on Sunday. I assign days for each but switch them up when we get home from working depending on our mood/time constraints:

Monday - Spinach Quiche with Fig, Prosciutto, Brie and Arugula toasted baguettes
Tuesday - Apple, Grape, Kale juice
Wednesday - Whole Fish with Asparagus
Thursday - Chicken Riggies (splurge because of Thursday Night Football)

Typically we don't cook on Friday or Saturday nights and go out to restaurants unless we decide to have an at-home date night and cooking is our together activity.

QOTW: My husband loves to cook, and he really is amazing. He could have been a top chef if he would have followed that path. He doesn't cook routine meals during the week (although he will and does sometimes when I am tired), but he menu plans and cooks for all our dinner parties, holidays and when he gets the urge on a Friday or Saturday night. He also cooks all our breakfasts/brunches on weekends. He makes the most delicious homemade peach bellinis with our brunches!

ETA: Added recipe. It's really good, easy and has just enough spiciness. I never made the escarole part of it.
