Can I trust him?

I had a temporary position and when I left the job, my boss agreed to write a reference letter, which he did, and was very nice and to be a reference.  I know he is a good reference because one of my former employers contacted him and he said nice things.  Over the summer, I called and emailed to ask him if he could speak to another potential employer within the same company  about me regarding an opening.  I left a VM, but he never called back or emailed.  I figured what the heck maybe he did it anyway and it didn't warrant a response, but still thinking this is weird. My former co worker told me he just had another baby and has been tied up with that. This was someone comforting, thinking okay maybe that was reason he never got back to me. Is there something fishy there  and stop using him or just let it go assume everything is okay.

Re: Can I trust him?

  • You shouldn't take it personal. Try to reach out again, but if you don't confirm with him don't use him as a reference. Contact information or something may have changed. Either way giving a prospective employer a potential dead end reference could look bad for you. If they can't reach him or if he's surprised that he's a reference it won't look good.
