Question for those on Goodreads

On Goodreads, I am doing the reading challenge to read 50 books in 2013.  Do you count rereads in this?  This is obviously not a big deal, but I'm curious.  I reread 1 or 2 series each year (::ahem:: Harry Potter and Outlander), so there are potentionally 14 books that haven't been counted toward my total since I've read them previously.

Re: Question for those on Goodreads

  • I count rereads. Why not?

  • I have a question to go with this....how do you enter a re-read? Change the date you read it again but lose the original read date?

Yup. This is why I have yearly and monthly shelves, too.

Ditto. I count rereads (HP every year) but I have separate yearly shelves so that I can still remember what I read in previous years.

This is how I count them, but I may add yearly shelves too, that's a good idea.

  • I count rereads. I just add it as a different edition of the book so I can give it a different date read. Then my rereads can count toward my current challenge goal.

I don't understand why you wouldn't count rereads...you're still reading a book right?

So that's me saying yes, I count them.

eta - I do change the date read so that it shows in my goal tracker thing but I have yearly boards too so they're always listed on each year I've read them.

I don't count them because I don't update the date read.  I do update the Goodreads feature that asks how many times I've read this book though.

I like the idea of having yearly shelves but I don't want my Goodreads too cluttered.  Plus I've re-read books in the same year so yearly shelves still wouldn't solve my problem of accurately tracking them so I just don't.

ETA:  I'm not against counting them.  If I kept track in an Excel spreadsheet or something other than Goodreads, I would absolutely count them.

  • I count mine and change the date read section.  If I'm spending time reading the book, then I count it read in that year as well.

  • I count a reread the first time I read it in the year. So if I reread a book in January and then again in December, I only count it once for the year.

I keep a shelf for each year as well.

  • Its amazing how complex keeping track of books read can be :o3

I rarely reread but if I do I count it for my yearly total. I do wish GR would allow you to add dates read for a reread not just total times read.
