Alarm clock for a 3 year old?

I know this is a weird question. My daughter is 3 (will be 4 in January) and to get to daycare/preschool in the morning, she has to get up at some point between 6:15 and 6:30. Now she can be a morning person, but it can be a struggle to get her going. I am pretty much putting on her clothes while she is still asleep.

She is a very independent child. She likes to be a big girl and do big girl things. I asked her if she would like a clock to get her going in the morning, and she has told me she would like a pink one.

What would you do? Should I just continue doing my routine or should I just do a trial run with her?

Re: Alarm clock for a 3 year old?

  • You might get better answers over on the bump...maybe the parenting board? I have one of the oldest children here at 17 months. I would say to try the alarm clock but be prepared to go in and wake her up if she doesn't get up on her own. I am sure there are alarm clocks simple enough for a 3 year old or even clicks designed for children. Maybe try amazon? I think her showing interest in trying to wake up on her own is a good sign and to follow her lead!

  • Thanks! I will have to ask over there. Your daughter is super cute btw!

She gets up very well at 730, but 6:30, yea... hard.

  • Thanks! Maybe an earlier bed time? Which I understand is easier said than done!

  • I wouldn't expect her to actually use it appropriately, but maybe set if for 5 minutes before she actually has to get up so you have some time built in to go in and get her up if she turns it off and stays in bed.

  • wiggyslilsis  I've tried that before. Her bedtime is usually between 8:30 and 9:30 or she will wake up extremely early.

@whippet8 I will most likely do that if we go through with it.

  • I'm a lurker from the GP board but might be able to help. I have a friend who has a light on a timer in her daughters room and that wakes her up and lets her know that its time to start the day.  I don't know how hard of a sleeper your child is but it might be worth a try.
  • That is an awesome idea @amccul20

  • I will have to try that @amccul20 I didn't even think of a timer.
