Re: Diaper bags

  • As of right now;

    Diapers
    Wipes
    Rash cream
    Blankets
    Small emergency kit
    Bottles
    Formula
    Extra clothes

I think that's it. But I can't remember, I'm having pregnancy brain right now.

    For now:
    Extra clothes
    Diapers
    Wipes
Diaper cloths that we use as burp rags
    A light muslin blanket
    Hand sanitizer
And since I BF a nursing cover
I also just use it as my purse so I toss my wallet in there.

If LO took a pacifier I'd toss in an extra or two and if we FF I'd put some bottles and formula.

Once he's a bit older we'll add a bib and silverware along with some snacks and toys/crayons/stickers/books (whatever will entertain him at the time).

  • Oh and if needed sunscreen (when he's old enough) and a hat.

    .image

  • Another good thing to have if you plan on nursing are extra breast pads.

  • Thank you! This and what kind of diapers to use are stressing me out right now (I'm having legitimate work stress that I'm projecting into this diaper issue. I'm a shrink now, nbd.) I do plan to nurse so after diapers, wipes and rash cream I was blank.

Speaking of, how did you decide which diapers to use? I'm afraid of stocking up in case he gets a consistent rash from a certain brand.

  • I'm starting out with Pampers Swaddlers Sensitive, and a few packs of Honest diapers, mainly because that is what people have bought us. I'll see how those go, and re-evaluate if necessary.

  • diapers
    wipes
    changing pad
plastic grocery bags (for dirty diapers)
    pacifier
    pacifier wipes
    pacifier leash
    burp cloth
    bib
    extra onesie
    bottle
    formula nursettes
    hand pump
    nursing cover
breast pads (we combo feed so I need BF stuff and formula stuff)
    A&A blanket
    hand sanitizer
small clutch for me that has my wallet, checkbook, lip gloss
I toss my sunglasses, car keys, and phone in the side pocket, and I often shove a cardigan in there in case I get chilly or need to cover up spit up stains.
Alex just recently became interested in toys so I have a small rattle with a couple of links in there, but I didn't have this in there initially.
I also have a pair of baby sunglasses but this is in no way a necessity. :)

We use Pampers Swaddlers Sensitive.  I have tried several other brands but don't like them as much.  I did like the Target Up & Up, but they changed them and now they suck.

  • We used pampers Swaddlers sensitive for the entire time DD was in diapers. We tried a few others but always came back to those and that's what we're using with DS now and will continue to do so unless they cause a problem (rash, leaks, etc).

Another good thing to get is doggy poop bags for times when you have to change a diaper and there's no where to throw out the dirty diaper. We also like using them when we go to other people's houses so we aren't just throwing dirty diapers in their trash.

I forgot about these! We got the Arm & Hammer bags at the shower, and I love that the dispenser has a little clip that'll attach to the inside of our diaper bag.image

  • I am such an over packer. I'm having a tough time remembering exactly what was in there but we had a huge diaper bag and it was always stuffed.

I started with pampers because that is what the hospital had and people got us. I didn't like them especially because they have a funky smell. I switched to Huggies and lovedthem. I wwas able to return all our extra diapers to Walmart with no receipt and got a Walmart card with money on it that we used to purchase our diapers for months. Once out of the newborn stage we started using luvs because they are cheaper but we went back to Huggies as soon as she started moving around because the luvs would leak all the time.

When we aren't in cloth, I prefer Pampers to Huggies, but my favorite so far are Earth's Best Diapers.  They're comparable in price, and they fulfill my inner hippie.

  • I'm only going to include the stuff that hasn't been listed....

We also have disposable changing pads, because the fold up ones aren't always big enough, especially once baby gets bigger.  Those changing stations in restaurants, stores, etc are NASTY.  The disposable changing pads I can just toss in the trash when I'm done.

    Paci wipes.

Something that you don't necessarily need to have in your bag, but you should probably have in your car at least.... an extra shirt for YOU.  It hasn't happened to me yet, but it happened to someone on GPM (can't remember who), but baby had a blowout while being worn.  Poop all over her shirt.

A dryel pen for any stains.

  • If you're FF, make sure you always have a bottle of water with you so you can quickly make a bottle when necessary, so you don't have to worry about finding water.

  • Oh, and we always kept a clean baby washcloth in our diaper bag because newborn babies' eyes tend to get gunky, so we needed something soft and clean that we could wipe his eyes with.

  • I think that pretty much everyone has listed what we have. We just have plastic grocery store bags to use for diapers. We also have some tissues in there for, too.

  • I love the idea of extra bags for dirty diapers! It drives me crazy when friends and family bring their babies and toddlers by and just throw the diaper in the nearest trash can.

    I'm stealing the idea.

  • I definitely think the thing I use the most is the diaper changing mat. My mom made it so it is big enough. I use it where ever we change her diaper even in the trunk because then I don't have to worry about cleaning poop out of the car!

    Yay that was me!

I also keep a few extra diapers and wipes in my car so if I run out or forget to restock my diaper bag I have them.

  • @Tinytrex321 the diapers and wipes in the car is a good idea. I was pretty good about keeping the bag stocked but not anymore. We ended up with a poppy diaper at a family member's house with no diapers twice. I think I finally learned my lesson.
