  • I haven't had puppy chow in forever!
  • am I the only one who didn't realize puppy chow was a delicious treat and not ... dog food... until like a week ago? WTF? Where has this been all my life??? Get me some elastic pants and some puppy chow, STAT.
  • I love puppy chow, but I've never made it (my waist probably thanks me for that). DH and my ILs calls it Muddy Buddies and I find it really annoying. I don't know why.

This is how I've always known it as well. It wasn't until recently I heard it called Puppy Chow. I'd rather call it Muddy Buddies; Puppy Chow holds a negative connotation of cheap, low-quality dog food for me.

I agree with Cinco. You are being flamed.

It's pretty easy to make. I make mine in the microwave, and it doesn't take very long.  Just be careful with the powdered sugar. Mine is always all over my shirt and arms.

:)  I guess I just don't "get it".  Can you taste the Chex?  If not, then it may seem slightly more appealing to me.

Not really, just the "crunch". It basically tastes like peanut butter, chocolate yumminesss.

  • @Looneylife You do not taste the Chex at all.  I actually use Crispix instead, because they have a crunchier texture than Chex. That's about the only thing you get from the cereal. Otherwise it's just chocolate and peanut butter coated with powdered sugar.

This is what we call them! It's not really a great name, but I agree with @LuckyAngel07 thatt the name puppy chow icks me out.

Muddy Buddies are always around during the holidays and I can devour an entire batch if it's left in front of me. And freakin' Nutella and Chocolate Chip Cookie recipes?? Cause I need more things to crave. Right.

DH told me I need that I need to wear just my apron sometime when I'm baking. Perhaps I'll need to find a good recipe, strip, put on my apron and some heels, and mix up a batch for him. ;)

Okay, our H's really were cut from the same pattern.  Mine has said that many times.  I've come to a realization that if that were to happen, he would walk in the door and not know what to do with it. He would stand there in shock.

  • I think "Muddy Buddies" is what the prepackaged Chex mix version is called. Don't let it fool you. It's not nearly as good as the homemade.

I mean, I'd eat it in a pinch, but I'd rather have homemade.

Now that's an important distinction. Homemade for this girl, all the way!

ETA: FTR, I grew up with only homemade but we called it Muddy Buddies. I think it's a better name, but if Puppy Chow is the name for the homemade version then I'll jump on the Puppy Chow bandwagon in a hot second.
