VA Library Destroys Books... :(

I wish this article wasn't true...so sad! I understand that libraries do need to get rid of their "outdated" or "unused" material but that's exactly what Friends of the Library and such are for!

Re: VA Library Destroys Books... :(

  • Ugh I hate this, book sales are one of my favorite times of year at the library :(
  • Yeah, I posted about this on FB.  It's positively shameful and wasteful!

"Many of them were still considered highly relevant, like a book from the “Harry Potter” series, a Fodor’s travel guide book and a copy of “It’s the Great Pumpkin, Charlie Brown.""

  • This makes me stabby. I'm sure, with very little effort, they could have found a place to donate these books. Shame.
I write sexy books. I read all the books. I love dresses & macarons.

  • Not to defend the library not donating to the charity it used to, but my branch of the Fairfax County library has its entire lobby filled with books for sale (a quarter for paperbacks, 50 cents for hardcovers) and the shelves are always overstuffed.  I stopped donating my books here long ago.

It is really appalling that in a county with so many recycling benefits, they would throw even heavily damaged books in the trash.

There was a comment on the article that mentioned something as simple as a Facebook post saying "Free books!" with a time to come get them would have helped alleviate their burden. I agree.
