First Appt

I just called to make my first appointment.  They scheduled it for 9/30.  I guess I would technically be like 7 weeks then...is that too early to go?  I ovulate late and think I ovulated around CD 19.  Due to unfortunate circumstances, I am going to have to pay out of pocket until Jan.  My first appt is $750 and I just don't want to go too early since I have to pay out of pocket!  Thanks ladies!

Re: First Appt

  • I don't think that's too early.  Do you know what they plan to do?  Are they going to do a dating u/s or just go over medical history, etc?

  • They asked me if I prefer a male or female sono tech so I am guessing they plan to do an u/s.  They didn't really tell me though and I didn't think to ask since I was concerned about the money aspect of it :-p

  • Are you going to your RE or OB? If it's your RE, they should do a dating ultrasound, and at 7 weeks, you should definitely be able to see a heartbeat.  An OB may or may not do one that early since most only do the NT and AS ultrasounds, but I would assume they'd confirm pregnancy either with a blood test, or check your urine.

My first appt with the OB was actually just with a nurse practitioner and she gave me a packet of info about what to expect throughout pregnancy and we just talked about how I was feeling and answered any questions I had.

  • I am going to my OB.  I just didn't know if since I ovulated late if that throws off the number of weeks pregnant I am...if that makes any sense.

  • Exactly what caseyandlizzie said. I was 7 weeks at my first appt with the nurse practitioner and had a dating u/s the following week. We heard (via transvaginal u/s) and saw the HB at 8w1d.

Unless your RE wants you in sooner, I see no issue calling to postpone a week or two if you want a little extra time to save money.

  • If you O'd CD19 it would only change you due date by 5 days. You should still be able to confirm a viable pregnancy. It's completely up to you, but I don't think it's too early.

If the 7 weeks is based off of LMP, then it would probably put you a week behind by going off of O. This was the case with me.

  • Did you ladies have very many appointments in the first trimester?

  • I had one a week with my RE until 10 weeks, then had my first appt with the OB at 12, so I'm not much help on that front.

After my first OB appt, I had them starting once a month, and they basically just take my bp, weight, had me pee in a cup, they listened to the hb and they answered any questions I had. Luckily, the appointments have pretty much stayed the same for me througout pregnancy, with the occasional u/s or glucose test thrown in.

  • I just had the nurse practitioner meeting, dating u/s, then check ups every 4 weeks. My OB does every 4 weeks until 28 weeks, then every 2 weeks until 36 weeks, then once a week week until the end.

  • Not very many appointments in first tri. I hadmy first appointment at 7 weeks and they just took a ton of blood and went over the bbasics of pregnancy with me. Then I went back at 9 weeks for a dating u/s. The appointments were once a month in the beginning but I had extra appointments for things like nausea and stomach pain, etc because I am a worry wart.

  • My first appt was at about 9 weeks. It was a pap and a dating u/s.

  • My first appt was at 8 weeks for a dating U/S and to get all the background info. Then barring no problems I had an appt every 4 weeks until 28 weeks, then every 2 weeks from 30-36 weeks, then weekly until I delivered. The anatomy scan was done at the 20 week appt and I didn't have any other test, scans, or U/S besides those two.

  • My first appointment was 9.5 weeks. I didn't have an u/s and the doctor couldn't find HB with doppler until 13.5 weeks. If you're not getting an u/s at the first appointment I would call and postpone it a few weeks.
