Re: qod 9-11
I lived in NH at the time and it was chaos getting to the train station and waiting for a train to get home. My mom was freaking out for my safety and not knowing where my older brother was because he lived in Brooklyn and was supposed to be at the towers that morning.
I will never forget what I saw or heard. And I will always remember those who ran to the chaos to save people.
I was a Junior in HS and in history class. This was in RI so we weren't evacuated and no one really left early. But I do remember being terrified and thinking that the world would never be the same.
When the music was stopped for the breaking news, I couldn't believe it. Being from CT, having close family in NYC, and a brother who was in College in Pittsburgh, I was the one who was most connected to the events. That was odd. Attempt after attempt was made to contact my family, in CT, in NY and my brother, with no luck.
I finally got through to my parents, who had heard from my brother, and my aunt and uncle in NYC. My cousin was in HS at the time (freshman), and was sent home- well at least somewhere other than school. With public transportation stopped, and cell lines overloaded, it was hours before we knew he was Okay.
I am so thankful that my Co workers jumped in to watch my kids so I could track down
my family.
I couldn't even imagine what it must have been like, and is today, for the families directly effected.
