Randoms? Vents? Confessions?
It's my first day back at work after vacation. Instead of catching up on my emails, I am working on a calendar of fun things for us to do this Fall.
I had to do daycare drop off today. I knew it would be rough since they've been out for over a week, but I did not expect both boys to be a total mess. It was the worst. I started crying and sent DH a b!tchy text, taking it out on him, and telling him I was quitting my job. I managed to pull myself together, but I could still use a drink.
The new Honda Odyssey comes with a built in vacuum. My first thought was annoyance that we didn't wait until this year to buy our van; my second thought was that we should trade ours in for a new one; my third thought was, is this what my life has come to?
Re: Randoms? Vents? Confessions?
that is amazing. I HATE vacuuming the car, the whole thing is just such a huge process.

Dd was up and in my bed at 5:20 this morning!! Ugh! But I figured at least it meant more time getting ready. No while I showered she went back to her room and fell asleep and was a bear when I woke her up. Of course dh gets to sleep through most of it. Not what I wanted to deal with while sick.
Related...trying to make it to the bus every morning is going to give me an ulcer!!! It stresses me out all morning. We get there in plenty of time but I feel like mornings are so rushed and stressful even more than they were before which is saying a lot!
I saw the ad for the new one with the vacuum and thought about how awesome that looks. We bought ours as an end of model sale and saved a ton, but I was sad to miss out on the double video screen and cooler. The vacuum may have been a deal breaker when we were buying, even with the van's increased cost.
I'm excited to take the kids to see the new exhibit at the Children's Museum this weekend. I know Michael will love any exhibit devoted to balls.
Also, I have the first PTA meeting of the year tonight. I like being involved, but there was PTA drama at the end of last year, so I'm nervous about the meeting.
They've asked me once to become treasurer and I declined. I have fear of being asked to become an officer again, because I'm one of the few parents who consistently attends meetings.
Honda just started offer dual screens and a cooler? Wow, Chrysler has had that for at least 6 years. That is crazy. I think my dad's last three vans have had both options.
I hate the common core that is taking over public schools. I have educated myself on it and am appauled that it is going into affect. I am upset that Bill Gates takes the upper hand in my kids educations. This is what our world is coming to?
Ok, so I have to share the best thing I have found down here... car wash / detailing stations... they open at 6am, I think, and they offer 50% off services on Tuesdays and Wednesdays.
Shortly after we moved here, I stopped by one next to daycare and let them have my car (after driving 1400 miles with 3 little kids in the back, snacks, etc.). It took them over 30 minutes to clean every inch of it - and it cost me $14.49 before tip. Oh and free, fresh coffee while you wait.
Best money I've ever spent!

I want a minivan; I was hoping to convince DH that we should get one, because he's currently hating my Traverse (first year model - never again!). He refuses to drive a minivan, though, but he won't keep his truck clean enough for us to use with the kids on the weekends. Grrr.
DH is home sick today. Granted, the man never gets sick, but he's got a stomach bug and was up from 4-5:30a. Which means that I was up the same time and then got up at 6a to do the morning routine. He gets to nap right now, while I get to work away. I'm jealous. *yawn*
First grade, school paperwork, work, work paperwork, house, laundry... it's killing me. Slowly. Especially bc I have no friends here to vent with, and my DH is always working, so I have no one to talk to! Oh woe is me. lol

This sounds like the car wash place that Walter White owns in Breaking Bad. I'd love to have one of those around me. It makes me bitter to spend $8 or 9 to go through a drive through here that doesn't even end spot free.

Oh you will soon enough, it is a huge topic right now (maybe more so with Catholic vs public).

One argument against is its a dumbing down (top down) standard across the board to get kids ready for community college. For Catholic schools the fight against it is a "dumbing down" of what is expected of the kids & that it does not leave room for faith based teaching or innovation which is one of the top reasons people send their kids to Catholic schools. Essentially, its public school with a religion class.

I just vented about this on FB, but I’m still annoyed. Heather wants to be Merida from Brave. She wants to be the girl that rides horseback and does archery and spends time in the forest. She doesn’t want to be the princess gussied up to be married off.
All of the Merida costumes are glittery and sparkly and knee length. They are totally NOT in the spirit of what my daughter likes about Merida in the context of the movie! If I were a better seamstress, there is a Simplicity pattern of exactly the right dress available. My mom even knows a good seamstress. But our first Halloween event is October 5th and it isn’t a simple pattern and the woman is in Michigan, so it’s not going to happen.
I’m probably going to buy the $20 dress that is closest to being right (although it is too shiny and too blue) and make a long skirt and cape to camoflauge it. The archery set is ordered and we already bought the wig.
Unrelated work vent: A coworker thinks that they way I do something is “wrong” and confusing. (Hint: it’s not confusing, it is just confusing TO HIM because it is different than the way that he does it.) When I try to explain my reasoning for doing it that way and how I have tried to accommodate his needs, he cuts me off and refuses to listen. Crabby old man.

No kidding! It would drive my husband crazy that I would spend that $ on a wash alone.
Lisa, you need to open up one of these places then - one month later and my dashboard is still shining!

Wow - I hadn't heard of this! I'm reading it right now and, from what I can tell, I am thankful Texas is one of four states who refuses to adopt this method (at least for now). Sheila and Mary, I would be so ticked bc we're all paying for Catholic school - schools that do not get ANY money from school taxes.
I guess I understand the concept that "they" are trying to level the playing field for every child. But, since there is no monetary tie, the parochial schools should not have to follow this. It sounds like they're making kids robots - not teaching them to think for themselves, rather memorize and regurgitate.
