It was my freshman year of high school and I was in Latin class. I was in Southwestern CT so we got sent home early that day because of our proximity to NYC. A lot of people from my hometown area commute into the city for work. You could actually see the smoke from parts of CT that day. It was really scary and so so sad

  • I was sleeping in my dorm room my freshmen year, I heard the news in the background and that they were evacuating Philadelphia Airport. My dad works there and I just started freaking out with out really knowing exactly what was going on. My dad ended up not even being there. They whole day no one moved from their room glued to the tv and everyone went home that weekend just to be with their love ones.

  • I was in my freshman year in HS in my history class. My next period was Freshman Choir and the school had a lock down on electronics to not scare the students. Our teacher violated that and let us listen on the radio. My mom came towards the end of the day to pull me out because there were fears that Cleveland Hopkins was going to be attacked and my school wasn't far from there.

  • I was in choir well dance choir really and the classroom is somewhat isolated from the rest of the classrooms because of the music so we never even knew. When we were switching classes we kept noticing students faces and how weird they were looking at us for laughing and smiling. I got to my next class which was honors english my teacher whose husband was in the military and worked on the air force base here was in tears with the tv on. I just stopped in my tracks and was blown away. We had a lot of students checked out that day because a lot of families in the area are military and our base here was on high alert and lockdown as President Bush and Air Force 1 were at our base for most of the day. Also there were threats of our base being a target since we have lots of weapons and high security items here.
  • I was 25 and at work. I worked in downtown Boston as a visual merchandiser for a huge retail store. I was on the 5th floor dressing a bust form in women's when news of the first plane hit came over the walkie. A short time later I went to the breakroom and a bunch of us all watched the horror of the towers falling.

I lived in NH at the time and it was chaos getting to the train station and waiting for a train to get home. My mom was freaking out for my safety and not knowing where my older brother was because he lived in Brooklyn and was supposed to be at the towers that morning.

I will never forget what I saw or heard. And I will always remember those who ran to the chaos to save people.
  • I was a Junior in HS and in history class. This was in RI so we weren't evacuated and no one really left early. But I do remember being terrified and thinking that the world would never be the same.

  • I was 22. I had been in St Louis for a little over a year, and had just started my new job at a day care/ preschool. We always had the radio on before circle time because my 2 year old class lived to dance.

When the music was stopped for the breaking news, I couldn't believe it. Being from CT, having close family in NYC, and a brother who was in College in Pittsburgh, I was the one who was most connected to the events. That was odd. Attempt after attempt was made to contact my family, in CT, in NY and my brother, with no luck.

I finally got through to my parents, who had heard from my brother, and my aunt and uncle in NYC. My cousin was in HS at the time (freshman), and was sent home- well at least somewhere other than school. With public transportation stopped, and cell lines overloaded, it was hours before we knew he was Okay.

I am so thankful that my Co workers jumped in to watch my kids so I could track down
    my family.

I couldn't even imagine what it must have been like, and is today, for the families directly effected.

  • I was a freshman in college.  I was walking back from my 8 o'clock class when I passed my roommate and she told me what happened.  Classes ended up being canceled for the rest of the day after that.

  • I was in grade 9, a freshman in highschool. I remember turning on the tv and being ticked off because the news was interrupting my routine of getting ready while watching reruns of Sabrina the Teenage Witch. I told my brother that some buildings in NY got hit by a plane, and didn't quite understand that seriousness of the situation until I got to school and things were explained. We had tv's in every classroom in our school and they all had the news on all day, and we talked about it a lot. What the buildings were, where they were, why they were important etc. etc.

I was in my 8th grade science class. I remember that's all every one talked about all day. I don't think in any of my classes we did anything we where just talking about the buildings and watching the tv in awe.. Such a sad day.

  • I was in training for a job with a mutual fund company whose headquarters were at the world trade center. Our CEO stuck his head in the training room and asked us to come into the main conference room. The TV'S were on and they said they didn't know about any of the people at the NYC location and they were sending us home. Thankfully we didn't lose anybody as the office was a low floor and they evacuated to the Seacacus office after the first plane hit.

I'll never forget that ride home, it was surreal. I still get chills thinking about it. Our training group was supposed the be at that location the next day.

  • I was in highschool. I woke up to my alarm and instead of playing music the radio was saying "OMG there's people jumping", and I was really confused. I went downstairs and my mom had the TV on and told me what happened and apparently I got up just in time to watch the second tower get hit. That hit me hard. At school that day all we did was watch TV, no one even bothered to move classes when the bell rang or anything.
