how many betas?

I'm actually going tomorrow for my betas instead of Friday. I know some people get multiple ones. Should I expect getting betas more than once as well? Sorry for the stupid question.

When did y'all get your first U/S?

  • I had three betas drawn, to ensure that they were doubling properly. GL tomorrow!

  • I went to the hospital when I was 6 weeks pregnant ( I thought I was 4 weeks) because I was having sharp pain in my belly I had just gotten my BFP and they did a vaginal ultrasound to see if I was having an ectopic pregnancy. That same day they drew my blood and had me go back a few days later to see if they doubled.

So, I guess I had 2 betas and if I include the vaginal one it's 4 ultrasounds and I also did an optional ultrasound to find out the gender before going on a vacation.
  • Lol, I read the last question wrong.

I had my first regular ultrasound at 10 weeks. I thought I was around 7-8 weeks but baby measured bigger.
  • I had 3 betas and a transvaginal ultrasound at 8 weeks.

  • Does your RE call it betas? I'm afraid to ask them what my betas were/are when they call me back with the results.
Sorry if I sound stupid. I'm leaning on you experienced ladies for info! LOL

  • My RE called them betas and HCG levels.  I had two beta draws.  One at 14dpo and the other at 18dpo.  The only reason I didn't go at 16dpo is because my RE's office only does beta draws M-F.  I also had my first u/s at 5w5d.  Then another at 6w6d when they actually told me I looked closer to 7w5d.  I wasn't doing a treatment cycle with the RE when I got pg, but they still treated me as if I did.  Since you were doing a treatment, they'll probably go all out.

  • I had 2 betas, 48 hours apart. My betas didnt double, but rose significantly.

My first ultrasound was at 7w5d because I was having cramping and spotting. They used that as my dating ultrasound. :)

  • You should always get more than one beta unless it's really high (like over 2000) in which case they may just schedule an ultrasound because the doubling rate slows as the number increases, and ultrasounds are more accurate for dating than betas.

Otherwise, one number only tells you if you're pregnant or not. The second number helps indicate whether things are going well or not.

Other terms for betas include HCG levels, quantitative HCG, or in the ER we call them "quants."
