Personal Checks

I feel so stupid, but....

Ordering checks for me and the hubby's joint account...

I use "or" for our names and not "and"

Example: Wife or Husband Johnson

I believe if you use and, then both of us have to sign every check. or am I crazy?

Thanks :)

Re: Personal Checks

  • You can go either way. Most commonly, people stack the names:

    Husband Johnson
    Wife Johnson
    Address
    City, State

Even if you did order checks with "and," both of your wouldn't have to sign. The bank doesn't hold an obligation to enforce dual signatures. :)
  • and / or come into play when you write a check.

then  ---and - both must sign the check to cash it

or - either party could sign -- only one signature needed,

On the actual check you have both names stacked as previous poster showed.

Do not use and/or on the printed checks - just the 2 names.

  • Ours justly lists our names on a separate row. One name on top, another below, then address etc.
