First Disappointment

I was going to test today and the only reason I waited so long was so H and I could do it privately, without my step son home (he is with his mom Wed-Mon this week). I was trying not to get my hopes up, but I was 5 days late and I've never been late my entire life. What happens as soon as I put him to bed last night? AF (that dirty effing whore) decides to show up. And with a vengeance!!!

I know I haven't been on this board (or TTC) very long and I hope this doesn't come off as insensitive to those of you who have been in my place many times before. I am allowing myself to be sad today.  Tomorrow is a new day!

I don't, because this was our first month TTC. My sister actually gave me a fertility monitor as part of my wedding gift (she gave it to me in private after my shower).  Both my sisters had used this monitor to get PG (twice each; they sent it back and forth to each other), so she wanted me to have it.  I think I will start using it this month.

  • Sorry, AF always sucks. You likely weren't really late though and just ovulated late.
Are you newly off bc? because it can take your body some time to adjust. Charting or using OPK's will help you pinpoint O and know when you're really 'late'

  • Ditto PP's who recommended charting--it really does take a lot of guesswork out of your cycles. (not that it's foolproof, but still. It helps.)

Sorry about AF :( You're allowed to feel disappointed. (hugs) I say treat yourself to something unhealthy and/or decadent today. :)

You're right; I should clarify... When I said I was "late," it was going by the WomanLog app I've been using for several years.  I've always gotten AF the day it was predicted, and while I know your body can be unpredictable (especially coming off the emotional/stressful month I had - wedding, etc.), it's been right on every month in the past, so I truly thought I was late. It only predicts by days (not temps) and the chances that I O exactly when it says I do are slim, but I started using it to predict AF, not O, so it worked in that sense. I haven't  taken BC for about 10 years, so at least I can rule that out.

  • Like all the other pp... No matter how many months you have been trying 1 or 36 it is always disappointing when AF arrives and it really doesn't get much easier.

For future cycles, I'd highly recommend setting up an FF chart. I still just use the free service, but you can certainly go VIP for all the bells and whistles if you prefer. The other apps really aren't that useful, especially if they're just "guessing" your key dates based on your past cycles. Even the most regular woman can have an off cycle (especially after the craziness of a wedding and honeymoon!), so it's always good to know for yourself than trust a random bit of technology that doesn't use any of your body's signals. :)

Couldn't agree more. Like I said, I was only using it to predict AF, so it worked for that (except this month lol). I will be using my OPK starting tomorrow.

  • Sorry about AF. She is such a biatch. I second that setting up a chart on FF for future cycles may help you out a lot. I was super intimidated at first, but after a few weeks it just became second nature.

What's the point in going out to dinner if you don't get dessert?  We were with another couple, so we all split two desserts - a ginger creme brulee and a chocolate peanut butter layer cake - yum!
