Help me choose a 'first day' outfit!

I start an internship on Monday. I'm super excited, but I'm stuck on what to wear. I wasn't given any guidelines on dress code (I work in the museum industry, so it can range anywhere from suits to jeans and a t-shirt, but varies a lot by museum), and I'm really torn on what to wear. I have two options so far, both involving dresses.

Here's option 1:

But the color of the leggings doesn't show very well, they look like this:

Belt can change, or I can wear a short necklace and forgo the belt altogether.

Here's option 2:

Haven't decided on shoes/stockings for this.

Option 3 is scrap both of those, wear dress pants and a shirt-to-be-named-later, play it safe.

Thoughts?

Re: Help me choose a 'first day' outfit!

  • I would honestly do 3 until I got the feel for this museums dress code.

  • I like the second option. Still professional, but very cute. (pink top)

  • Absolutely not #1.

I like #2 (ha) but I'd probably play it safe and go business professional until I got the dress code in writing.

  • I like option 2 but it might be better to play it safe like Aim said. My policy is always that it's better to be overdressed on the first day.

  • Thanks ladies! #1 was an option because it does a better job of covering my legs/feet than #2, but it's definitely more casual. I'm thinking I'll probably just wear dress slacks, and hope to get a better feel quickly.

  • I agree on the dress pants and top. But I love the leggings in the first option!

  • I go with option #3 also.

Your first day is hard enough as it is, you dont want to have to worry about feeling over/under dressed. Dress slacks are a safe bet!

this is a good rule to go by! I do love those leggings in #1 though!
  • I say play it safe with 3 until you see how everyone else is dressed! I love 2 though! I hope it fits right in and is a great day 2 option!
