  My nurse said it would help draw the fluid out of the ovaries and back into your veins where it's needed.  She also told me to eat saltines, again because of the sodium.

  EDD 5/23/14, blighted ovum (6w6d), D&C (8w6d)
  FET #1 (April 2014):  transferred 2 5d blasts = BFP

  I was wondering as well. I was gonna drink it anyways because I never question the great panda, but why is always fun to know

  Basically when you have your ER you are releasing all of your eggs at once. The fluid in your ovaries, which would have normally been absorbed is now in your abdomen. The fluid that is in the blood going to your ovaries also goes into your abdomen. When you drink gatorade the salt and electrolytes are in your stomach and draw the excess fluid out of your abdominal cavity. If you drank plain water this would not help to draw the remaining fluid from your abdomen. This is why they also suggest that you eat salty foods and drink whey protein shakes as they take more fluid to break down.

  They make a gatorade that has like 8g of protein in it. It tastes kinda gross, but if you can chug it its worth it. You can also drink coconut water if you need a little break from gatorade.  I made my whey protein shakes with chocolate coconut water.

  I loooove coconut water, but its so expensive . So I did mostly Gatorade and one thing of coconut water for a special treat for ER day

  They also have a low cal Gatorade. I downed a LOT of it after egg retrieval and really did think it helped.
