Update on Me-Kinda Long

If anyone is curious about what is going on with my health stuff...

I went to the doctor on Friday and he said that my back pain is part of my migraine aura. He also told me that based on my high cortisol and low sodium the endocrinologist wouldn't see me but that if I did this other blood test and it comes back abnormal he will. I think it was insulin growth factor. So he took that and said it could take a week to hear back. He is willing to work with me and do tests. The endocrinologist doesn't want to see me unless we basically know what is wrong because he has such a large case load.

Anyway, my doc thinks something is wrong with my endocrine system and took down a list of symptoms and is going to do some research. He had me do a 24 hour urine catch to see if there are any chemicals in my urine that would indicate a certain kind of pituitary tumor and he is checking some other things too. The thing that is throwing him off is that I was able to get pregnant with DD.

He also put me on a very low dose antidepressant to take daily to prevent the migraines because my fiorcet wasn't working anymore and I am allergic to the imitrex. I took it and basically felt like I had the flu with hot flashes and chills, body aches and nausea which is what happens when I take Sulfa antibiotics and imitrex is a sulfa based med. He said that most people only have reactions to the antibiotics and not any other sulfa meds but I fall into that small percent that can't tolerate any.

Anyway, it isn't much of an update and I am going back to the doc next Friday. I will let you guys know if we find anything out.

That got long so if you made it all the way through Thanks :)

  • I am trying not to get my hopes up about figuring this all out quickly. It took 2 years for me to get my Growth Hormone Deficiency diagnosis (which was pretty cut and dry...I wasn't growing) and 8 years to get my endometriosis diagnosis. I think that whatever is going on is related to my growth hormone deficiency (hypopituitarism) so that is helping insurance cover the costs. I am worried though because I don't know if I will have insurance as of October 1st.

  • That is frustrating. I'm sorry you're dealing with all of this. I hope you don't lose your insurance and that these tests at least give you some direction. It would definitely make sense for it to be related to your hormone problem, but I hope whatever it is has a solution so you don't have to deal with the migraines anymore.

  • Thanks guys! DH's employer doesn't offer benefits for family so I am on state insurance that is not income based. Basically I have medicaid but I pay for it. My "review" is this month and I am waiting to hear back from them if it is getting renewed. I can get on my Mom's insurance but not until Jan 1st during open enrollment. I am looking into buying private insurance for Oct, Nov and Dec but everything has like a 1500 deductible which doesn't make sense if I will be only be using it for 3 months. If anybody has any resources for looking up private insurance please let me know!

  • Thanks everybody! I feel so wrong hoping that my blood test came back abnormal but then at least it would mean that the endocrinologist would see me and it would mean we could move forward instead of being stuck.

Thanks for updating us and please keep us updated.
  • Hope you feel better soon! I commiserate with you on the migraine stuff! They prescribed me Demerol cause the Fioricet didn't work for me.

  • Thanks! The fiorcet worked for me for a while but recently it would just take the edge off or wear off in like 2 hours. I was taking it too often and the amount of caffeine in it was starting to affect me as well.

Are you doing any better on the migraine front? I think you said they lowered the dose of anti seizure meds?
