Okay... so... I finished this last night and am still not entirely sure how I feel about it. I saw the ending coming a mile away

I just knew that somehow Karou was going to kill The White Wolf and put Ziri in his body. I was surprised that Hazael died, though. I loved him
I didn't love this one as much as I loved DoSaB. It was soooo gruesome and heartbreaking, but at the same time spoke of hope and beauty in the same way that DoSaB did - it just felt more grim and somber. I think what I really missed here was the romance.
When Karou reincarnated Issa, I cried. I was SO happy she was back. But god damnit, Brimstone better show up in the next book! I hope he's in the Cathedral!
I'm really curious about the Stelians. I want to know MOAR about them and about Festival (Also, WTF kind of name is Festival?)
ZUZE and MIK are adorable and I want them to be my BFFs forever.
Karou is such a wonderful character. I love how she can recognize her own flaws, how she strives to be better, how she isn't ever perfect. She is my favorite part of these books. That, and the blue hair.
Is it just me or does anyone else here have a REALLY hard time picturing what the chimaera look like? Most have impossible sounding body structure and I can never quite picture them in my mind completely.
Re: WIJFR: Days of Blood and Starlight (SP)
I did like this book but agree that the first in the series was much better. I wanted Issa to be Brimstone SO badly but I'm sure that's being saved for the third book.
Interestingly enough, Issa is the only one that I feel like I can picture of all the characters.
I feel like Karou is the character I've been looking for in so many books. She's strong, aware of herself, and kind of a badass.
I'm very interested to see where book three goes.
I love Zuze and Mik. They are fantastic.
I promise I'm not trying to be contrary, but this book really just was OK for me. I liked DoSaB, but not quite loved like everyone else. DoBaS I liked less. It was definitely missing the romance.
Maybe it's that I don't feel a connection with Akiva? I'm honestly rooting for Ziri! I will read the next one because I'm more curious about how Ziri is going to handle being the wolf.

Karou actually annoyed me in this book more than DoSaB. The way she slunk around the White Wolf, letting her guilt consume her, was totally distracting to me. I was happy when she finally grew a backbone.

I loved how unpredictable this book was. Just when you think something is going to happen, something else happens instead. Maybe Issa wasn't one everyone was cheering for to return, but did you expect it? Nope.
I loved this book just as much as the first. I think the characters became well developed, and war is gruesome, so I can't really argue that point. I love the friendship between Karou and Zuze. This element is missing in so many books with strong female leads.
But Ziri. Poor Ziri.
I've never really liked Akvia...he doesn't do it for me. I'd love for her and Ziri to get together, too!
I adore Akiva. He was my favorite thing about the first book.

I loved this one because it was so emotional. I think the depth of the FEELINGS this book gave me kept me from missing the love story, and it also made those tiny glimpses we get of Akvia/Karou time that much more powerful. It was SO HEART-WRENCHING. My favorite thing to say about a book.
I think the way the last book progresses will actually shape my feelings about this one more, one way or the other.

Her characters are so fantastic, they could all line up and read political bills and I'd read attentively. Zuze? Just love.
Also, I'm with @84Lauren I didn't see the ending coming.
I love that this is a YA series with themes. Genuine literary themes. Cruelty of war, hope, the body as a vehicle...just a whole lot of love for this series.
