Kids Clothes Size Question - 24m and 2T, are they the same?

I'm hitting the Just Between Friends consignment sale this week. G is in desperate need of clothes, he's rocking belly shirts and high-waters.

I know at Target 24m and 2T are the same height/weight. Is this true for most brands? I know some brands run bigger or smaller, etc.

I'm just wondering if I should focus on one over the other. My main concern is the pants. I've picked up quite a few pairs of 24m and 2T pants and they seem so long, but his 18m pants are approaching flood stage!

some places are the same (like children's place I don't think even have 2T, they go straight from 24 mo to 3T) but other places they seem to differ. that's probably no help whatsoever.

I think 24 months are cut wider and a bit shorter than a 2t.

I think I'm probably just going to have to eyeball it. I was trying to avoid having to look in 2 separate sections - but it's no biggie.

I looked into it before I did my fall shopping and it seems that at least for carters/oshkosh the 2T is longer than the 24 months (and only slightly higher in weight). So I went with 2T's since DS is long and lean.

Amy, that's what I'm leaning towards, too. G is tall but rotund, lol. His belly can take on the extra length of the pant, I think.

I don't remember there being a big difference between 24 mo and 2T. As for the pants, that's always been a tough spot for us. Having a variety of brands helped. Carter's seemed to run shorter than Children's Place, even for the same size, so that helped through the in-between stages. Even now at almost 4 1/2 Jude is rocking 3T Levi's jeans but 4T Old Navy pants will probably be too short by Christmas.

I always look for pants with an adjustable waist band, too. Jake has always been tall but thin, so the adjuster on the band was a must, otherwise the pants would just fall right off!

Ditto...if there's any difference 2T is normally thinner and longer. But honestly if its a difference it usually isn't much.

These are ideal for DD, but she refuses to wear pants with more structure than leggings. So we either go with skirts on the verge of too short, or we safety pin the back.

I have to laugh at Nolan though, every time he hits a growth spurt, his pants that previously fit end up falling down to his ankles. I'm excited that we're in the adjustable waist sizes now!

24 month is meant to leave more room in the bum for a diaper, whereas 2t does not. At least that's what they said at Carter's;)

Right now we are in the 4t or 4 situation and I am finding the 4 is a little longer than a 4t. DD is tall and thin so I take any extra length I can get. If then made adjustable waist sweatpants/play pants my life would be so much easier.

24 mths is supposed to accommodate for a fluffy diaper unlike a 2T - I found this to be true for Carters, Gymboree, Janie and Jack, GAP
