When I talked to my doctor about TTC back in June, she gave me a pamphlet about first trimester testing. It's done during 11-13 weeks pregnant. I never heard of anyone having them done that early and when asking recently PR friends, none of them were offered it. I've been doing some research, but was wondering if anyone here has experience with having it done.
Sorry if I sound like a newb, just haven't heard of it.

Re: I May Sound Like A Newb
It's pretty standard and is part of the Nuchal Translucency screening, which also goes along with an ultrasound. You'll get bloodwork done to rule out certain chromosonal abnormalities, such as Downs, Cystic Fibrosis, and I'm not remembering the third one right now. The test results won't tell you if the baby has any of these issues, but will give you the percentage chance of baby having one. For Downs, the u/s is also a good indicator, because based on measurements of certain body parts, it can narrow down the risk.

After awhile, you just want to be with the one who makes you laugh. - Mr. Big
I think some people decline because they would never terminate the baby based on the results, but that is not the reason for the test. If you do find out you have increased chance, you can have time to prepare and line up services, etc.
DH and I also had blood drawn for genetic testing for both us during 1st trimester to see if we were carriers for over 100 genetic conditions (from fructose intolerance to Sickle Cell Disease.) It only cost $100 if insurance did not cover it.
RIP Dr. Irving Fishman - 10/1/19-7/25/10 - thank you for holding on for me.
